Since its inception, beSteel Light steel framing has been the pioneer of light gauge steel framing in Europe. Today, a new chapter opens. Sweelco, created and led by Damien Muller and Pierre Rougeulle, takes over the assets and extends the expertise and activities developed within beSteel, which now becomes beSteel by Sweelco.

This project came with a challenge: strong windloads on the long side of the building.

Our solution? A mix of HRS and Durelis plates, nailed every 50mm for maximum stiffness.

410 days. That’s all it took to build the Empire State Building. 🏙️

Completed in 1931, this landmark skyscraper rose in just 13 months. Long before BIM or modular construction, it was already a pioneer in prefabrication and logistics:

✔️ Pre-fabricated steel frames delivered ready to assemble

✔️ Façade elements (stone, spandrels, windows) produced off-site

✔️ Standardized, repetitive floors allowing industrialized speed

✔️ Supply chains and labor shifts coordinated with military precision

At times, the steel structure advanced 4 floors per week.

Back then, they built fast with the tools they had.

Today, with light steel framing, digital tools, modular systems, we can go further: faster, cleaner, smarter.

Soon, 7 buildings will house 73 homes and 6 workshops, built for the city and its people.
