Your boiler may not be the problem. Your steam system might be.

Replacing a boiler or the burner does not automatically solve steam efficiency problems.
We regularly see plants with efficient steam generators that still lose a surprising amount of energy elsewhere in the system.

Steam leaks. Failed steam traps. Poor insulation. Excessive blowdown. Low condensate return. Incorrect pressure settings. Boilers running at loads they were never designed for.

The boiler is only one part of the system.

If you want to reduce steam costs, start by looking at the complete system rather than just the boiler efficiency figure.

That’s why we’re excited about this next step.
Clayton Industries is entering into a strategic collaboration with Solid Energy to develop a new generation of steam heat pumps capable of delivering steam at up to 4 barg.
Solid Energy brings proven expertise in very-high-temperature industrial heat pumps. The new solution builds on the same compressor platform and control architecture that have operated reliably in its heat pumps for more than ten years. By using a different refrigerant, the technology can reach temperatures of up to 165°C, opening new possibilities for industrial steam production.
Clayton brings decades of experience in steam generation. Combining these two areas of expertise is a natural fit and creates a practical route for industrial sites looking to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels.
For Clayton, this collaboration is also part of a broader ambition.
By adding technologies such as high-temperature heat pumps to our portfolio, we are strengthening our role as a strategic partner for industrial steam solutions.
The future of steam will not be based on one technology alone. Depending on each customer’s process, energy availability and decarbonisation goals, the right solution may be fired, electric, heat-pump based, supported by heat storage, hybrid or, most likely, a smart combination of technologies.
Our ambition is clear: to help our customers find the most efficient and sustainable way to produce the steam their processes need.

The summer holidays have started and that means less ( or little) people on the workfloor. And in this period the small jobs, like testing the water quality, tend to be forgotten.

A Clayton unit allows you to run your steam system up to 168 hours ( depending on local regulation) unattended thanks to its monitoring systems for hardness and conductivity.
