12/07/2021

We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting a webinar on 21 July 2021 at 0930 Brussels/15:30 Manila on the subject of a Surge Capacity Assessment Tool (S**T) for use by laboratories. This will be the first in a series of monthly webinars offered to you by CBRN CoE Project 81 (P81) under Work Package 7 (WP7) Developing surge capacity to respond to pandemics” .

The webinar should last around 90 minutes with time for questions and some interaction with participants.

The S**T has been developed by our Project team and our Key Experts (from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in the Netherlands and from the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) in Thailand) will provide a practical demonstration of the S**T and its application to laboratories which are designated for use in the response to a major epidemic or pandemic. The S**T provides a structured analysis of capabilities and levels of availability which will need to be rapidly augmented when a major outbreak of an infectious disease or a global pandemic occurs. This was one of the priority areas identified during our webinar in November 2020 and for which we agreed to provide e-learning solutions. The S**T is intended to be used by laboratory staff - particularly those members of staff responsible for the operational management of large numbers of test samples during epidemics/pandemics. It is our hope that a small number of designated laboratories in each participating country will agree to use the S**T and thereafter work with the project team to analyse the results.

Future webinars will focus on SARS-CoV-2 Waste Management (August), End-to-end laboratory diagnosis (September), Preparedness and rapid response (October), New Variant sequencing (November) and Legal frameworks in pandemics (December). E-learning packages will be made available for most of the topics listed.
