52.5% of our metal‑containing materials input mix comes from secondary sources. This means that over half of the metal‑containing materials we use are not directly mined for this purpose. They are recovered from a range of complex sources, including end‑of‑life products and industrial by‑products, materials that might otherwise be lost as waste.

By bringing these valuable metals into our processes, we help balance growing demand with limited resources. Recovering metals that might otherwise be lost as waste is at the heart of Umicore’s role in and helps limit the pressure on primary extraction.

Die SUR/FIN Expo findet vom 2. bis 4. Juni 2026 in Rosemont, Illinois, USA statt und zählt zu den wichtigsten Treffpunkten der internationalen Finishing Industrie. Wir freuen uns, in diesem Jahr mit einem eigenen Vortrag vertreten zu sein. Am 2. Juni 2026 von 14:00 bis 14:30 Uhr geben wir spannende Einblicke in die Zukunft nachhaltiger Oberflächentechnik. Unter dem Titel „Modular Anodes for a Sustainable Future: Circularity in Electroplating and Surface Treatment“ zeigt der Vortrag, wie modulare Anoden zu mehr Nachhaltigkeit, Kreislauffähigkeit und Effizienz in der Galvanotechnik beitragen können.

The SUR/FIN Expo will take place from June 2 to 4, 2026, in Rosemont, Illinois, USA, and is one of the most important gatherings for the international finishing industry. We are pleased to be represented this year with our own presentation on June 2, 2026, from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m., in which we will offer exciting insights into the future of sustainable surface technology. Titled “Modular Anodes for a Sustainable Future: Circularity in Electroplating and Surface Treatment,” the presentation will demonstrate how modular anodes can contribute to greater sustainability, circularity, and efficiency in plating.

Precious metals are a key driver of costs and sustainability in many plating processes. This makes it all the more important to recover precious metals from areas where they no longer serve a functional purpose such as substrates, rejects or auxiliary tools.

Stripping processes make exactly that possible: They selectively remove precious metal coatings, laying the groundwork for cost-effective recovery and a more circular economy in surface technology.
