ASEAN’s renewable energy transition is gaining momentum, but accelerating regional grid integration is essential to strengthening energy security, attracting investment and meeting growing electricity demand.

🌎 GRA and OLACE strengthen cooperation to accelerate renewable electrification in Latin America and the Caribbean

At OLACDE - Organización Latinoamericana y Caribeña de Energia’s 11th Energy Week in Santo Domingo, Bruce Douglas, CEO of GRA, and Andres Rebolledo Smitmans, Executive Secretary of OLACE, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen regional energy cooperation and accelerate renewable electrification.

Held alongside the 44th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM), our focus for the week remains on advancing one connected delivery agenda for the region:

⚡️Tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030
⚡️Accelerating renewable-powered electrification
⚡️Scaling the grids and storage needed to support it

From 5–9 October, the Global Renewables Alliance will be on the ground engaging across AEBF and the wider ASEAN Energy Ministerial week - from high-level discussions on investment pathways for power interconnectors and mobilising capital for the region’s energy security, to hosting a dedicated workshop on private-sector participation in support of the ASEAN Power Grid.

⚡ Clean electrification in Indonesia and ASEAN must be powered by renewables - or it won’t deliver lasting energy security.

At the Indonesia Net-Zero Summit 2026, the Global Renewables Alliance, E3G and Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) convened a clean electrification panel to explore how Indonesia and the wider region can turn energy ambition into a more resilient, secure and renewables-driven economy.

💬 Rexor Amancio, GRA’s Asia-Pacific Regional Lead, delivered a clear message: “We cannot talk about electrification for the sake of electrification alone; we have to ensure that there’s also modernized grids and battery storage systems in place to support electrification and regional integration.”

That means accelerating:
✅ Renewable energy deployment
✅ Modernized grids
✅ Battery storage systems
✅ Clean electrification across buildings, transport, and industry

The ambition is clear - what’s needed now is faster implementation to ensure renewables power the broader economy: in Indonesia, across ASEAN, and beyond.

At the Indonesia Net-Zero Summit 2026, GRA’s Asia-Pacific Regional Lead Rex Amancio joined Southeast Asian leaders from government, industry and civil society to explore how ASEAN can strengthen both energy and climate security through closer regional cooperation.

💬 Rex Amancio delivered a clear message: “The challenge is translating ASEAN’s vast renewable energy potential into a strong pipeline of bankable, investable project.”
