Recently, Europe marked the very first European Doctoral Day. While the day itself has passed, our commitment to supporting, representing, and advocating for doctoral candidates continues every single day.
Doctoral candidates are at the heart of how knowledge is created, challenged, and shared across borders. Yet, many continue to face significant challenges, including unstable employment contracts, limited access to social rights, and high pressure affecting their mental health.
If Europe wants to lead in research and innovation, it must actively invest in its early-career researchers. This means ensuring fair employment, adequate salaries, stable contracts, and the protection of academic freedom.
To turn the spirit of European Doctoral Day into something practical, Eurodoc is launching a new initiative to gather guides on doctoral programmes from different national contexts across Europe. These resources will be compiled and made available on our website, helping doctoral candidates easily access clear information about their rights, training, supervision, and career support in different countries.
Let’s continue to include, support, and advocate for doctoral candidates as they shape the future of European research.
