Elia is Belgium’s high-voltage transmission system operator (30 kV to 380 kV), operating over 8,000 km of lines and underground cables throughout Belgium. 🎉 25 years of Elia, 25 years of curiosity 🎉

As we continue to celebrate Elia’s 25th anniversary, we’re shining a spotlight on colleagues who have been part of our story for just as long. This month, we’re featuring Valérie.

When Valérie joined Elia 25 years ago as a chemical engineer, she knew very little about electricity. What she did bring was an enormous desire to learn. Today, as Head of Large Projects, she helps lead some of Elia’s largest infrastructure projects.

Curiosity has remained the common thread throughout her career. Discovering new perspectives, finding creative solutions and delving into complex challenges are what continue to energise her after 25 years. She has also witnessed the evolution of Elia’s approach to its projects. Alongside technical innovation, people, societal impact and public support now play an increasingly important role.

Last Saturday, we hosted our very first local Technical Discovery Day in Merksem! 🔧

Throughout the day, future technicians and technical talents got a behind-the-scenes look at Elia's operations, discovering the technologies, infrastructure and expertise that keep Belgium's electricity system running.

Visitors connected with our teams, explored our facilities and gained valuable insights into what it's like to work in a technical role at Elia.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this first local edition a success. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to inspire the next generation of technical talent.

🎉 25 Years of Elia, 25 Years of Keeping the Lights On 🎉

As we continue celebrating 25 years of Elia, we’re putting the spotlight on the colleagues who have been part of our story for just as long. This month, meet Thierry.

For 25 years, Thierry has helped keep Belgium’s high-voltage grid stable and the lights on. As a System Engineer in our National Control Centre, he monitors the grid around the clock, anticipates potential issues and steps in whenever needed. His experience, focus and ability to stay calm under pressure have helped him navigate them, while today he also shares that knowledge with a new generation of colleagues.

🌊 A new construction milestone has been reached for the Princess Elisabeth Island.

The 23rd and final caisson has been placed, marking the end of a major construction phase for the island's outer structure. Built and assembled over the past years, these 23 caissons will form the foundation of the future energy hub in the Belgian North Sea.

Made possible through the expertise, commitment and collaboration between Elia, DEME and Jan De Nul, this achievement brings the project one step further and demonstrates the scale of collaboration required to prepare tomorrow's energy infrastructure.

The result? A wide range of creative prototypes, driven by curiosity, experimentation and a willingness to try something new, a true reflection of how innovation comes to life across Elia. 💡

🏆 Congratulations to our colleague Fabrizio Vinci from 50Hertz, whose winning demo, MeetSmart, earned him a ticket to VivaTech Paris!
