In June 2026, solar generated a record 52 TWh of electricity, providing a quarter of the EU’s power for the first time ever.

Even more impressively, solar became Europe’s largest source of electricity for the month, generating more power than nuclear, gas, wind and hydropower.

This rapid growth highlights the increasingly important role of solar in delivering affordable, home-grown energy while strengthening Europe’s energy security.

⚡Europe's future runs on electricity

The European Commission's Electrification Action Plan puts electrification at the heart of Europe's economic strategy and that's exactly where it belongs.

With a new 46% electrification target for 2040, the EU is set to double today's electrification rate. The package also takes important steps to address the tax imbalance between electricity and fossil fuels, while recognising battery storage, flexibility and smarter grid use in network tariffs as essential pillars of a competitive and affordable energy system.

Now, ambition must be matched with investment.

Land is more than acreage.

Landowners can rely on solar to diversify and strengthen revenue for generations to come. Plus, across Europe, solar will use less than 1% of land to meet current energy and climate goals. That includes brownfield sites, alongside roads and railways, and marginal land.

That leaves the vast majority of farmland doing what it has always done – feeding families and supporting communities. Energy and agriculture can grow together.
