Five stations. Three continents. One standardized landside approach.
That's how Menzies Aviation starts its global rollout of Nallian's TVM - landside management solution. Starting with Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Prague, and San Francisco, collectively handling more than 500,000 tonnes of cargo annually.

The scale gets attention. But the more interesting part is the intent behind it.
When Beau Paine, EVP Air Cargo at Menzies, explained the move, he didn't talk about fixing congestion at one station. He talked about scaling a global cargo business and the need for consistent, data-driven operations to do so. That's a different conversation from "we need to sort out the dock."
For ground handlers operating across multiple stations, this kind of deployment does three things at once:

- Internally: every station works from the same framework: the same booking logic, the same data structure, the same KPIs. Turnaround time, no-show rate, dock utilization, SLA adherence. Each station configures to its own operational reality, but the data is comparable. That means you can manage performance across a network, not just observe it station by station.

- Operationally: when the underlying approach is consistent, improvements at one station become transferable. What worked in Sydney can be tested in Prague. That's hard to do when every station has built its own process from scratch.

- Commercially: a common framework means you can make consistent commitments to airline and forwarder customers and back them up with data that's structured the same way everywhere. Not anecdotally. With timestamps, turnaround records, and SLA reports. Most handlers are already generating this data. Very few are using it as a commercial asset.

Standardization isn't the goal. Consistent, provable service quality is. Standardization is how you get there.

Shanghai, here we come! Our CEO Jean Verheyen is heading to air cargo Shanghai, June 24–26, one of Asia's biggest air freight events. If you're attending and want to talk about landside orchestration, truck visit management, or cargo acceptance, find Jean on the floor or drop us a message to set up a meeting.

Nallian orchestrates landside operations for cargo communities, ground handlers, freight forwarders, and airlines. The result: less waiting, faster turnaround, fewer surprises, and a landside operation that runs in control instead of reacting to chaos. We just launched a new website that tells that story more clearly. Take a look: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0w0GFt0.

Landside chaos isn't inevitable. It's a choice.

Most cargo warehouses still run on first-come, first-served truck arrivals. Not because it's the best approach. Because changing it feels complicated.

Here's what a first-come-first-served approach actually costs every day:
– Unpredictable peaks that leave staff scrambling
– Dock doors idle between surges, then overwhelmed
– Drivers sitting in queues, burning fuel and time
– Your team is firefighting instead of managing

The math on wasted dock capacity is rarely done. But when it is, the numbers are significant, and they compound across every shift, every day.

Structured truck flow management changes the equation. Arrivals spread across real capacity. Peaks flatten. Staff plan ahead instead of reacting. The operation doesn't get easier because volumes drop. It gets easier because arrivals become predictable.

Curious what this looks like in practice? Happy to walk through how others have made the shift.

Not all truck slot booking is the same. And in air cargo, that distinction matters.
Two dimensions really set the models apart: how well a system matches demand to real capacity and adapts when operations shift; and how deeply it integrates with other systems to keep information flowing.

They're closely linked, but each deserves its own treatment. This article focuses on the first: how pre-announcement, static slot booking, and real-time capacity-driven orchestration each handle flexibility and agility in practice. (A follow-up will tackle the integration side.)

Worth a read if you're evaluating landside management options. See the link in the comments.

Every financial transaction is the shadow of an operational event. Our CEO, Jean Verheyen, will be joining the panel 'Inside a $3 Trillion Supply Chain: Rethinking Financial Flows & Transaction Efficiency'. The panel will, among others, explore how freight handover points affect financial efficiency and why getting them right (or wrong) has a direct bottom-line impact. We'll be there from 1–3 June. If you're attending and want to talk landside optimisation, come and see us. We look forward to connecting!

Landside operations under control. That's the theme running through our latest newsletter. This edition covers:
- RFS landside visibility: why half of expected movements are invisible to handlers, and what to do about it
- Different slot booking models explained: not all approaches are equal, and the difference matters
- Menzies Aviation and Nallian join forces: First roll-out covering five stations, 500,000+ tonnes of cargo annually.
- World Air Cargo Awards nomination: your vote counts until tomorrow!

A good reminder that in logistics, sustainability is often driven by better processes, not just better technology.

In this recent CargoForwarder Global article, Christina Toscano explores how supply chain efficiency can directly impact sustainability and profitability. We were pleased to contribute insights from Nallian on the role of process coordination, data sharing, and faster handovers across the cargo ecosystem.

In air cargo – especially in perishables flows – delays, siloed data, and reactive operations can shorten shelf life and increase waste. As highlighted in the article, even moving goods one day faster can give retailers an extra day of shelf life, reducing spoilage and improving supply chain outcomes.

Improving visibility and collaboration across stakeholders is therefore not just an operational improvement, it’s also a sustainability lever.

Many thanks to Christina Toscano and CargoForwarder Global for the opportunity to contribute to the discussion.
