This apartment building is located in the Voula district of southern Athens, designed to stand the test of time. Architect Konstantinos Golfinopoulos worked from a clear ambition: timeless design that respects the building's form and ages beautifully. Nothing more, nothing less.

🌿 What makes a wood species suitable for sustainable architecture? 🌿

Architectura recently featured our Belgian ThermoWood® in an article exploring the growing demand for sustainable alternatives to tropical hardwood.
When specifying materials for facades, exterior joinery or outdoor spaces, architects and designers increasingly look beyond appearance and cost. Origin, lifespan, maintenance and environmental impact all play a role.

ThermoWood® offers a responsible alternative. Starting from fast-growing, certified wood species such as ayous, fraké, pine and poplar, we use only heat and steam to enhance the wood's durability and dimensional stability—without adding chemicals.

The result? A versatile material for facades, decking and solar shading applications, produced in Belgium and sourced from responsibly managed forests.

Over time, untreated ThermoWood® develops a uniform silver-grey patina while maintaining its performance characteristics.

Belgian table manufacturers and wood specialists Heerenhuis are exhibiting at MAISON&OBJET Paris — Hall 5A, M50, from 15 –19 January 2026.

Their designs feature LDCwood® ThermoWood ayous and fraké, which are chosen for their lightweight feel, warm aesthetics, durability and stability.

Made from solid ThermoWood® and finished with oil, the tables are suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

❄️ Is ThermoWood® resistant to cold weather?

ThermoWood® is highly resistant to cold weather conditions. The thermal treatment process used to create ThermoWood® involves heating the wood to high temperatures, which removes moisture and makes the wood more stable and durable. This makes ThermoWood® an excellent choice for outdoor applications, such as decking and cladding, where it is exposed to cold temperatures. The wood's resistance to moisture, mold and pests also contributes to its durability in cold weather.
