John Cockerill wins contract for electrical steel process lines with JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Limited!

John Cockerill has been awarded a landmark contract by JSW Steel for the design, engineering, supply, supervision of er****on and commissioning of two Annealing & Coating Lines (ACL 2 & ACL 3) and one Annealing & Pickling Line (APL) for its Cold Rolled Non-Oriented (CRNO) Electrical Steel Project in Vijayanagar, Karnataka.

The project will be led by John Cockerill in close cooperation with Fives Stein, bringing together extensive experience in annealing, coating and pickling technologies to meet the specific requirements of electrical steel production and JVML's performance expectations.

This project marks John Cockerill's entry into India's electrical steel processing market and represents an important step in supporting the country's growing demand for high-performance electrical steel used in electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, industrial motors and power infrastructure.

With a production capacity of approximately 600,000 tonnes per annum, the new facilities will contribute to strengthening India's domestic electrical steel value chain and advancing the nation's electrification ambitions.

We thank JVML for its confidence in our teams and look forward to delivering this important project.

What happens before an electrolyzer reaches your site is just as critical as how it performs once installed.

At John Cockerill Hydrogen, every system undergoes a rigorous validation process, progressing from lab-scale testing to full-scale operation under real-world conditions.
The result is performance proven through real-world data, not only assumptions.

From efficiency and safety to long-term durability, this is how we turn design into proven performance. Read more: https://johncockerill.com/en/press-and-news/news/blog-from-lab-to-field/

Low Carbon Steelmaking Innovation on Display at South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute (SEAISI) 2026!
At the recently concluded Conference in Singapore, John Cockerill contributed to the industry's ongoing dialogue on performance, efficiency, and sustainable steel production through two technical presentations showcasing our latest innovations.

Representing John Cockerill, Eric Albrand presented Volteron, a breakthrough solution designed to support the electrification and decarbonization of upstream steelmaking. His presentation highlighted how hashtag can help steel producers reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining operational excellence.

The spotlight also turned to our 3rd generation Blowstab, presented by Mehmet Bulut ÖZYİĞİT, who shared insights into this advanced Cooling technology for High Strength Steel that enhances process stability, improves operational reliability, and contributes to higher steel quality.

Together with Jean Gourp, President Asia-Pacific, our team seized this conference to strengthen ties with customers and partners in a region where John Cockerill has deepened its presence in recent years.
As steelmakers across Asia accelerate investments in modernization and sustainability, innovative technologies such as Volteron and Blowstab are proving essential in tackling the industry’s challenge of balancing sustainability with competitiveness.

At the World Hydrogen Summit, some conversations simply focus on what really matters.

Our Chief Sales Officer Stéphane Putzeys, had the opportunity to engage in informal, yet very grounded, discussions with Belgium’s Minister of Energy, Mathieu Bihet, around several projects we are currently working on, both in Belgium and internationally.

With leaders from Virya Energy and AM Green also present at that moment, the exchange naturally extended beyond formalities, reflecting the kind of direct dialogue needed to address the realities behind project development.

Part of the discussion took place around our 3D model, providing a concrete 1:20 scale view of our 4x5 MW electrolyser system and how it integrates into broader approaches such as the Clear100+ solution developed by Rely, presented on site by Rely's Chief Technology Officer Jean Jouet.

These exchanges, outside formal settings, allow for more direct conversations about what actually makes projects move forward, or not.
The question is no longer whether the technology works. It is whether it can hold up under real project constraints.

Thank you to Minister Mathieu Bihet for visiting our stand, and to the many visitors to this for the fruitful discussions.

The first prime colour-coated coil was produced from the new High-Speed Colour Coating Line supplied by John Cockerill to Jindal India Limited on 18 May 2026, marking the successful commissioning of the facility.

From groundbreaking to commissioning, the project was completed in just 15 months, making it one of the fastest ex*****ons of a Colour Coating Line of this scale in recent years.

With an annual capacity of 2.75 LTPA and process speeds of up to 180 m/min, the line is equipped with John Cockerill's latest-generation paint coater technology, delivering superior coating accuracy, high surface quality, improved operating efficiency, and enhanced environmental performance.

This achievement further reinforces our position as a trusted partner for advanced steel processing technologies. The newly commissioned facility is the third Colour Coating Line we supplied to Jindal India Limited, with all of Jindal India's Colour Coating Lines designed and delivered by John Cockerill.

We thank Jindal India for its continued trust and congratulate all teams involved whose commitment and expertise made this successful commissioning possible.

John Cockerill had the honor of hosting Her Excellency Dr. Tokozile Xasa, South Africa’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Mission to the European Union.
This visit follows recent discussions between our teams and stakeholders in the country during Mining Indaba 2026 and the Economic Diplomacy Roundtable in Brussels on the theme “South Africa is Open for Business”.

Our experts presented John Cockerill’s capabilities in renewable power and long-duration energy storage, and more specifically our 15-year experience in molten-salt-based Concentrated Solar Power (CSP), including key contribution in 5 major CSP plants worldwide, among which the Khi Solar One and Redstone plants, the latter being located in the Northern Cape. This extensive experience has allowed us to build unique expertise and has inspired the development of our new modular CSP concept. With 2.5-MWt modules, this approach significantly improves accessibility and scalability, and addresses several of the challenges faced by large 100-MWe CSP plants.

South Africa, with one of the world’s highest Direct Normal Irradiance levels, is ideally positioned to benefit from such a technology. Our long-duration thermal storage (12–24 hours) offers important advantages:
• Reliable, dispatchable renewable heat and electricity, day and night
• Diversification of the energy mix and enhanced grid resilience
• Opportunities for remote or weak-grid regions to access firm green power and heat
• Deep decarbonization of both electricity and industrial thermal processes
• A cost trajectory approaching that of gas or PV + batteries, while providing much longer storage duration

Our Group is delighted to have had the opportunity to welcome Her Excellency, to present our energy transition solutions, and to discuss future partnerships in South Africa.

“I was pleased to visit John Cockerill for constructive discussions on renewable energy solutions to strengthen South Africa’s energy transition plans”, concluded H.E. Dr. Tokozile Xasa.
