What is an EasyStart transformer? 👀

When a transformer is switched on, a short but high inrush current occurs. This inrush current can rise to more than 20 times the nominal current, depending on the switching moment, the grid, and the transformer design. In installations where this peak is too high, it can lead to unexpected trips or shutdowns.

That’s where EasyStart transformers come in. They are specifically designed to limit the inrush current (IRC) significantly, allowing your installation to start up smoothly without nuisance tripping or interruptions.

An energy-efficient elevator… yet a higher energy bill than expected. How is that possible? ⚡

When an elevator operates on 400 V but your environment supplies 230 V, a transformer is required. But not every transformer is designed with energy efficiency in mind. Even in standby mode, many transformers consume energy, and losses increase further under load. As a result, part of the efficiency gains from your energy-efficient elevator can be lost, and costs may rise significantly.

At EREA, we use a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) calculator to design the most energy-efficient transformer for your specific elevator. By tailoring the transformer to each type of lift, we keep losses under control. At the same time, our transformers are designed to be inrush current limited (IRC – Easy Start), reducing peak currents during startup and protecting your installation. The result is not only better performance, but also a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
