Bourette Silk Stenli INDIRA
Bourette silk is a natural fibre obtained from the silk cocoon — specifically from the shorter fibres that remain after the long, smooth filament of mulberry silk has been reeled. These fibres are so fine that they cannot be fully stripped of sericin, the natural silk protein the silkworm uses to bind the threads of its cocoon together.
Sericin is not an impurity — it is the treasure. Rich in amino acids, antioxidants, and bioactive proteins, it has been recognised in both cosmetics and medicine for its anti-inflammatory properties, skin compatibility, and ability to stimulate collagen synthesis. Where conventional silk is smooth and lustrous, bourette is matte, textural, warm — and retains what other silks lose in processing.
INDIRA is a gently twisted double-ply silk yarn (2 ply), produced to the design of Statex Ltd in India. Its name carries one of the names of the goddess Lakshmi — an embodiment of the unity between spiritual and material richness.
Its ability to absorb up to 30% moisture without losing its shape, to act as a perfect thermal regulator — cooling in warm weather and retaining warmth in the cold — to resist odours, and to be exceptionally gentle on sensitive skin, makes it a yarn for every season. It is ideal not only for summer knitwear, but also for baby and children's garments, where the choice of material is not a matter of aesthetics but of care.
