Freeport Oil Company Limited (FOCOL) was formed in 1967 by the Grand Bahama Port Authority Limited (GBPA) as a distributor of petroleum products in Freeport, Grand Bahama. In 1982, a group of Bahamian investors acquired FOCOL and remained the sole supplier of petroleum products on the island. Since then, FOCOL has progressively expanded its operations in Grand Bahama to include LPG (Propane) Distr

Sun Oil markets Shell Quality Fuels and Lubricants which are trusted globally to power and protect the most sophisticated vehicles, machinery and equipment. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) commonly referred to as propane, is also among the products marketed by Sun Oil. In 2012, the plant was expanded and the latest automation technology deployed to create a modern facility with the largest storage capacity in the country. Most of us connect to Wi-Fi, open a laptop, or search an internal system without thinking about what has to work behind the scenes.

For Hodari Prince, that hidden world has become one of the most interesting parts of his summer.

Hodari, a Biomedical Science major at the University of Guelph, is spending his internship with the IT Department at FOCOL Holdings Limited. One of the projects he has been working on is an internal policy website that helps employees find important workplace information more easily, from workplace standards and performance management to employee relations, schedules, disciplinary processes and separation policies.

It is a practical project, but it has also given him a wider view of how technology supports people across the organization.

“One of the biggest things that I’ve learned is just about how fast problem-solving actually happens in real life,” Hodari shared.

That stood out to us.

Because in IT, the work is often quiet until something does not work. The systems, networks, connections, ports, VPNs and processes that most of us use without much thought are part of what keeps a business moving. Through this placement, Hodari has been able to see those systems up close and understand how quickly teams have to think, respond and solve problems.

His reflection is a reminder of what the FOCOL Emerging Leaders Internship Programme is designed to do: place interns in real business environments where they can move beyond theory, ask better questions and see how their learning connects to work that matters.

For Hodari, the lesson has been clear. Technology is not only about systems. It is about access, connection and the people who keep information moving.
