Founder Spotlight | Building Towards International Women in Engineering Day 2026

As we count down to International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) 2026, we celebrate the women who are driving innovation, transforming industries, and creating opportunities for future generations.

Today, we shine the spotlight on Ntobedzi Hanna Eunice, Founder and Director of African Sun Energy, whose vision and leadership continue to advance Botswana's clean energy transition.

Driven by a passion for sustainability and energy access, Eunice founded African Sun Energy to deliver reliable, affordable, and innovative renewable energy solutions that create lasting impact across communities.

As a strong advocate for women in STEM, Eunice believes that increasing female representation in engineering is essential to solving the world's most pressing challenges. Through initiatives such as FemEng Botswana, she continues to support and inspire the next generation of female engineers, innovators, and leaders.

"Together, we can build a cleaner, more sustainable, and more inclusive future." Eunice Ntobedzi Hanna

This INWED, we celebrate not only the achievements of women engineers but also the pathways they create for others to follow.

Empowering the Next Generation of Women in STEM – FemEng Botswana in Gambule

The FemEng in Botswana team visited Gambule Village in Botswana’s North-East District, engaging with young learners and inspiring them to explore opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Through interactive activities, mentorship, and shared experiences, the team demonstrated that engineering is not just about technology, it is about solving real-world challenges, creating sustainable solutions, and building a better future for our communities.

For many young girls, seeing women pursuing careers in engineering and technical fields provides a powerful reminder that their ambitions are achievable. By creating these connections and fostering curiosity at an early age, we can help build a stronger and more diverse pipeline of future engineers, innovators, and leaders.

At a time when Botswana is advancing its energy transition and embracing new technologies, investing in STEM education and empowering young women to participate in these sectors has never been more important.

A huge thank you to the learners, teachers, our Director Ntobedzi Hanna Eunice and the FemEng in Botswana team for making this engagement both inspiring and impactful. Together, we are shaping the next generation of problem-solvers who will drive Botswana's sustainable development.

"You cannot be what you cannot see." Today, young girls in Gambule saw the future and it looked like them.

FemEng Botswana Explores Renewable Energy Innovation in Francistown

As part of their visit to Francistown, the FemEng Botswana team had the opportunity to experience some of Botswana's leading renewable energy projects and see how engineering is transforming communities through sustainable energy solutions.

The team visited Villa de Chazha Guesthouse, the first guesthouse in Botswana to implement a fully integrated solar energy system combining both solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal technologies. This pioneering installation showcases how innovation and international collaboration can accelerate the adoption of clean energy within the tourism and hospitality sector. The solar thermal technology deployed at the site was developed by a UK university spin-out, demonstrating the value of global partnerships in advancing sustainable development.

The team also toured Monarch Primary School, one of the schools benefiting from the Francistown City Energy Hub (FCEH) initiative. Through this public-private partnership, schools across the city are being equipped with rooftop solar systems that reduce energy costs, improve energy resilience, and contribute to Botswana's clean energy transition.

These visits provided an invaluable opportunity for knowledge exchange, allowing aspiring engineers to witness real-world applications of renewable energy technologies while engaging with industry professionals delivering impactful projects on the ground.

We are proud to support initiatives that inspire the next generation of engineers and demonstrate how innovation can create a more sustainable future for Botswana.

Happy World Environment Day 2026!

Today, we join the global community in celebrating World Environment Day and reaffirming our commitment to building a cleaner, more sustainable future for Botswana and beyond.

The transition to renewable energy is not just an environmental imperative, it is an economic opportunity and a pathway to energy security. Every solar installation, every clean energy project, and every innovation we deploy contributes to reducing carbon emissions and creating a more resilient future for generations to come.

This year, we are proud to be advancing impactful initiatives including the Botswana Power Corporation Rooftop Solar Programme, the Francistown City Energy Hub Public-Private Partnership, and pioneering solar projects that demonstrate how sustainable technologies can transform communities, schools, businesses, and homes.

As the world moves into the new Age of Electricity, Botswana has an opportunity to harness its abundant solar resource, the "Diamond in the Sky", to drive sustainable development and climate action.

Today, we celebrate the engineers, technicians, partners, communities, and young people who are helping make this vision a reality.

Progressing Botswana’s Rooftop Solar Transformation – One School at a Time!

Today, the African Sun Energy engineering team was at Maradu Primary School and Phase 4 Primary School for the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) Rooftop Solar Programme sign-off process, marking another important milestone in the rollout of clean energy solutions across Botswana’s education sector.

These installations forms part of the Francistown City Energy Hub (FCEH), an innovative Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between African Sun Energy and Francistown City Council designed to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy while strengthening energy security and sustainability within public infrastructure in Francistown.

We are proud to announce that we are now halfway through the programme, having successfully completed 10 schools to date. Each installation contributes to:

Reducing electricity costs for schools

Improving energy resilience within public institutions

Supporting Botswana’s clean energy transition

Creating local skills and employment opportunities

Demonstrating the value of public-private collaboration in infrastructure development

The BPC Rooftop Solar Programme is a significant step towards diversifying Botswana’s energy mix and showcasing how solar energy can deliver long-term economic and environmental benefits for communities across the country.

A big thank you to our dedicated engineering team, project partners, and stakeholders whose commitment continues to drive this programme forward.

The journey continues as we work towards completing the remaining schools and building a more sustainable energy future for Botswana.
