"The average price of a good bull is P35000 excluding vet care, feed and suppliments e.t.c. Ofcoarse you can get a cheaper bull of debatable quality. If you have a 100 cows you will need 3-4 of these bulls for breeding which could cost you P140 000+ excluding vet care, feed & supplements e.t.c. Owning a bull in communal areas also comes with the risk of theft, death/predation, S.t.i infection. With the average price of a straw at P200-P400/straw (P400 X 100 cows= P40 000) excluding insemination costs. P40 000 is only but a fraction of the purchasing cost of 3-4 good bulls and their associated costs, therefore A.I should make a lot of sense for many producers."
