Empowering communities, building a positive legacy

At Sandfire, we believe sustainable development is about creating opportunities that leave a lasting impact.

What was once a temporary trading space in front of Choppies Mall in Ghanzi is now a permanent market facility; providing local informal traders with a safe and dignified space to do business and grow their livelihoods.

Watch how this investment is helping strengthen local enterprise; one stall, one business, and one opportunity at a time.

At Sandfire’s Motheo Operations, we believe in creating lasting value and supporting sustainable community development. This commitment is realized through strategic partnerships and investments aimed at enhancing the long-term wellbeing of the communities in which we operate.

The Kuke Veterinary Gate is a critical checkpoint for protecting Botswana’s livestock sector. Sandfire Motheo recently partnered with the Ghanzi District Council and the Department of Veterinary Services to deliver extensive infrastructure upgrades aimed at strengthening biosecurity and improving operational efficiency.

The upgrades included the installation of solar-powered streetlights, road pothole repairs, refurbishment of staff offices and ablution facilities, construction of a dedicated pedestrian walkway, development of specialised search sheds, and the rehabilitation of chemical dipping points for both vehicles and pedestrians.
These improvements will support stronger Foot and Mouth Disease prevention and control measures while creating safer, more efficient conditions for employees and members of the public commuting and working in the region

Sandfire Motheo was a proud sponsor of the 2026 WiMBO Pitso, where we actively participated in the discussions and demonstrated our growing contribution to the mining value chain.

Under the sub-theme “Women Rising to Mining Leadership,” Sandfire Motheo Operations General Manager, Onalenna Candy Godie, challenged the industry to rethink long-standing barriers and accelerate opportunities for women across the mining value chain.

“Women are now accustomed to be just as comfortable in their steel toes as they are confident in their heels,” she said.
As the first female General Manager at Sandfire, Candy reflected on the transformative shift taking place across the sector. More women are leading in technical fields, influencing strategic direction, driving operational excellence, and reshaping mining leadership.

At Sandfire, we are committed to talent development, awareness programmes, inclusive leadership structures, and deliberate efforts to create pathways for women to thrive at every level of the business.

Sandfire Motheo was proud to support the Botswana Human Resource Development Skills Fair and Career Clinics 2026 in Maun. This year’s theme was Creative Futures: Unlocking Skills, Culture and Innovation for Youth Employability.

Our team engaged with young people to share insights into a career in the mining sector and pathways to get there.
“It is important that young people continue to build their skills, remain curious and pursue their ideas with courage and confidence. They are the next generation of leaders who will shape Botswana,” said General Manager Operation, Onalenna Candy Godie.

As industries evolve, we remain committed to investing in young people, supporting skills development, and contributing to a future-ready workforce for Botswana.
