Foundations (plinths) for structural steel are usually a challenge for many in terms you of horizontal alignment. The best way is make a template with the exact measurements (spacing) as the steel which will be installed, then position your template and cast concrete. This will enable you to install your steel members with ease. Your formwork must be strong enough and as water tight as possible so when you vibrate your concrete your structure maintains its shape and you achieve maximum compaction to eliminate air pockets.
