Meet Terry, IMS’s new Sales and Marketing Manager.

Terry joined IMS because he’s excited to be part of a team with limitless drive for success and a passion to create long lasting partnerships with our customers.

What stood out to him right away was the commitment to be the best by supplying the best parts and materials in a timely manner to minimize down time.

After spending time in the industry, he’s seen first hand that customers don’t just want parts. They want IMS to be their solutions experts whether it’s scheduled maintenance or interrupted production.

At IMS, Terry is focused on strengthening our sales team to quickly and effectively provide our customers new and old with shortened lead times by providing the right product for the right solution at the right time. He and his team look forward to working closely with customers in mining, forestry, recycling, and road maintenance to help equipment last longer and downtime stay lower.

Outside of work, Terry enjoys spending time with his family and dog Jack in the outdoors hunting and fishing as well as on the baseball diamond as a coach.

Five winter equipment risks operators underestimate

Every winter across Western Canada, the same issues show up on job sites.

Not because operators are careless, but because cold weather exposes weak points fast.

Here are five risks we see underestimated every year:

❌Bucket lips and edges crack sooner in the cold
Steel becomes less forgiving as temperatures drop. Small cracks turn into major failures quickly.
❌Cutting edges and GET lose pe*******on in frozen ground
Edges that still work in summer often struggle once the ground hardens.
❌Frozen material accelerates liner and wear plate wear
Ice, fines, and packed material grind surfaces faster than most crews expect.
❌Weld repairs fail when they are rushed
Without proper preheat and controlled cooling, welds may look fine at first and fail later.
❌Reactive repairs lead to longer downtime in winter
Waiting for failure in January through March almost always costs more time and money.

The crews that stay productive through winter plan wear before the freeze hits. They rebuild buckets early, install fresh wear parts, and repair equipment properly so it holds up in the cold.

A cement plant came to IMS with one goal: find a wear solution that would handle their high-abrasion, 24/7 operation.

IMS recommended Chromium Carbide Overlay (CCO) plate — a material superior to many other wear plate options, including quenched-and-tempered plate, especially in fine, highly abrasive environments.

By switching to CCO plate, the plant’s critical components now run continuously with less frequent change-outs .

“Choosing the right plate isn’t guesswork; it's engineering,” says IMS' CEO, Caleb. “We look at utilization, impact, and abrasion, then design the fix.”

In winter operations, durability isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.

When a mining client needed a full rebuild of their shovel bucket, IMS stepped in early to help scope the right approach.

These buckets move raw material all day in some of the most abrasive conditions in Canada, so wear is inevitable. After reviewing the photos and understanding the site’s needs, IMS recommended a new lip, new wear components, structural checks, and final alignment work to ensure proper fit and performance.

Working closely with the customer’s maintenance team, IMS rebuilt the bucket end-to-end to ensure it returned to site ready to perform.
