The City of Calgary Filled a Record Number of Potholes with Help from the KM8000TEDD Hotbox & Infrared Asphalt Heater!
The City of Calgary filled over 35,864 potholes in 2024, surpassing their previous record from 2023. One major change to their road repair program that year was the addition of infrared asphalt heating technology with the KM8000TEDD hotbox & KM Infrared heater.
In their press release, The City highlighted how they had been ramping up the use of the KM infrared heater as a new tool in their pothole repair toolbox. By using infrared technology, crews were able to complete repairs with less material, fewer pieces of equipment, and fewer staff, while still creating smoother and longer-lasting repairs than traditional methods thanks to the ability to reclaim and reuse the existing asphalt already in the roadway, to create a seamless bond between the repaired area and existing pavement to prevent any water infiltration.
As stated by The City of Calgary’s Manager of Mobility Maintenance, “Our infrared asphalt heater is an example of how The City of Calgary is continuing to look for innovative ways to maintain our road network, We look forward to continue monitoring how this device can help us tackle road repairs in the future.”
After another year of monitoring the KM8000TEDD Hotbox & Infrared Asphalt Heater’s performance and repair quality, The City of Calgary decided to add four more units to their fleet for the 2026 season. We’re excited to see how these new units continue improving their road repair program and help crews continue breaking pothole repair records in the years ahead.
