Mississippi River Power Corp. Mississippi River Power Corp. owns and operates the 4.6 Megawatt Brian J. Gallagher hydroelectric generating station in Almonte, Ontario.

The station was built in 2010 and replaced the 2.4 Megawatt station on the middle falls that was built in 1925.

The dock at the boat launch in Metcalfe GeoHeritage Park is closed again after the water level came up again (significantly) over the past 24 hours.

Also, please use extreme caution in and around the water in this area. Flows are currently more than 400% higher than normal for this time of year. The currents can be very difficult to manage for swimmers or users of boats, kayas, and SUPs.

EDIT: As of 10:00AM on August 6th - The dock has been raised and re-opened.

The dock in Metcalfe GeoHeritage Park will be closed effective immediately, due to high water levels. It will be re-opened once levels recede sufficiently to make use of the dock safe again.

Today is Waterpower Day in Ontario. For over a century, waterpower has been part of Ontario's energy story, delivering affordable, renewable, and secure power. Today, with the Ontario Waterpower Association, we proudly celebrate waterpower, a timeless resource supporting our clean energy future.

Almonte has a long tradition of hydroelectric generation, dating back to 1890. Hydroelectricity brought industry to the town, helping establish a thriving community. The Municipality's roots are most definitely tied to clean, renewable hydroelectric power.

There will be a minor disruption on the public walkway on the dam below the Millworker's Staircase on Coleman Island this week. We are undertaking repairs to the surface of the dam in order to re-establish and preserve and flat walking surface for the public.
While repairs are underway, access may be restricted for short periods of time. Repairs will be completed this week.
