Good paving starts with good checks.

Quality control doesn’t only happen in the lab — it happens right on the jobsite, too.

Here, a member of the Tackaberry team is checking the freshly placed asphalt as the paving crew works. Monitoring conditions during placement helps the crew make informed decisions and keep the job moving toward a consistent, quality finished surface.

It’s one of the many behind-the-scenes steps that goes into the roads we drive every day — and a good example of the experience and attention to detail behind every Tackaberry project.

That practical, educational approach fits Tackaberry’s goal of showing the knowledge behind the work, not just the finished result.

Follow along as we share more of what goes into building and maintaining Eastern Ontario’s roads.

We’re grateful to once again support the Perth Fair as a Red Ribbon Sponsor.

Local fairs are about more than rides and events — they’re about celebrating agriculture, traditions, families, and the people who make our communities such great places to call home.

A big thank you to the organizers, volunteers, exhibitors, and everyone working behind the scenes to make this year’s Perth Fair possible. We’re proud to play a small part in it and hope everyone has a great weekend!

This community-first approach fits Tackaberry’s “Reliable Neighbour” positioning and the brand strategy of focusing sponsorship messaging on what the community achieves together, rather than simply highlighting the donation or sponsorship itself.

Heading to the Perth Fair next weekend? We hope to see you there! 👋

🚛 What a turnout, Brockville!

We were proud to be part of this past Friday’s Touch a Truck event and see so many families come out for a great day in the community.

More than 1,000 adults and children joined in — checking out the trucks, meeting the people behind them, and getting an up-close look at some of the equipment that helps keep our communities moving.

A big thank you to St. Lawrence College for helping host this year’s event, and to United Way Leeds & Grenville for running the BBQ and keeping everyone fueled up throughout the day.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello to Ryan and check out the Tackaberry truck. We’re always happy to share a little bit of what we do with the communities we’re proud to call home.

Thanks for having us, Brockville — we hope everyone had as much fun as we did! ❤️

Ever wonder why crews remove perfectly good-looking pavement before putting new asphalt down? 👇

This is road milling — the process of removing the worn top layer of asphalt before a road is resurfaced.

Milling gives the paving crew a clean, even surface to work from. It can help remove ruts and uneven areas, maintain proper road elevations around curbs and intersections, and prepare the roadway for a fresh layer of asphalt.

There’s another benefit too: the asphalt that’s removed doesn’t necessarily go to waste. Milled material can be reclaimed and reused in asphalt production, helping make better use of existing materials.

It’s one of those steps you might only see for a day — but it plays an important part in building a smoother, longer-lasting road.

Next time you see a milling machine at work, you’ll know what’s happening before the fresh pavement goes down.

🌡️ When it comes to paving, temperature matters.

Fresh asphalt needs to stay within the right temperature range so the crew has enough time to place, shape and compact it properly.

As asphalt cools, it becomes stiffer and harder to compact. If it loses too much heat before proper compaction is achieved, it can affect the density and long-term durability of the finished surface.

That’s why you’ll see our crews checking temperatures throughout the paving process. It’s one of the many behind-the-scenes quality checks that helps make sure the job is being done right.

There isn’t one magic temperature for every project, either. The asphalt mix, weather, haul distance, thickness being placed and project specifications can all influence the working window.

Next time you see a paving crew at work, keep an eye out for the temperature checks — there’s a lot more happening behind the scenes than simply putting asphalt on the road.
