Atlin Hydroelectric Expansion Project
Project Update
To the Atlin and TRTFN Community, Tlingit Homeland Energy Limited Partnership (THEL) is working closely with Jim Dent Construction Ltd (DENT) to keep the community of Atlin informed about Project activities and up coming work.
THEL has received the necessary permits and approvals to undertake final geotechnical site investigations. These investigations are an important step in gather information to support ongoing Project planning and permitting and further refine design and derisk construction.
It is important to note that these activities do not mark the start of Project construction. They are preliminary investigation works only. The Project permitting continues to advance in consultation with the province and respective stakeholders. All investigation activities will be carried out within existing project tenures and in accordance with the applicable permits, approvals and environmental requirements.
Description of Proposed Geotechnical Site Investigations
Proposed Start Date: July 27, 2026
Estimated Completion Date: October 31, 2026
The 2026 site investigation work will be conducted in four (4) main areas, and will close out the site investigations which were started in 2024. The four main locations of work are:
1. Surprise Lake Bridge south towards William’s Pond (Figure 1)
2. Near the Dredge Access Road (Figure 2)
3. South of the existing APL powerhouse and north of Lower Pine Creek Falls (Figure 3)
4. At the proposed location for the new powerhouse, off Warm Bay Road (Figure 3)
Maps of all four areas are attached in PDF sent via email for reference.
Prior to the start of investigations, surveying will be completed to confirm the project footprint and layout. The survey will be no invasive and use existing access. After surveying is complete, the geotechnical investigations will proceed, including test pitting, boreholes and geophysical surveys in 4 areas of the project.
Equipment on site for the works will include excavators, water truck, a track mounted drill rig, lowbed truck and trailer, and pick up trucks. The geophysical surveys will include seismic refraction, which uses an impact device similar in decibel to a sh***un blast.
These surveys will only take place during regular work hours and not occur before 7 am or after 7 pm. See less
