Century homes always come with challenges. This Kitchener addition project was no exception.

What started as a need for more functional family space turned into:
• New walk-out home gym
• Covered outdoor seating area
• New mudroom addition
• Additional bathroom
• Full basement gut and rebuild

One of our favourite details on this project was being able to salvage and repurpose an original hardwood interior door into a new pocket door. Small details like that help preserve character while still modernizing how the home functions.

Projects like this take planning, collaboration, and a team that understands how to blend new construction into homes that have over 100 years of history behind them.

We’re hiring.

Collab Contractors is looking for a sales professional who understands construction, can speak confidently about costs, and knows how to build real relationships with clients.

This is not a typical sales role. You’ll be working directly with homeowners on custom homes and large renovations, helping guide them from early conversations through to signed projects.

We’re looking for someone who:
• Has sales experience (construction preferred)
• Understands estimating or residential construction costs
• Can communicate clearly and confidently
• Has a strong work ethic and takes ownership

Compensation:
Base + commission + bonuses

Last week we took part in an energy efficiency costing workshop hosted by Building Knowledge Canada alongside Natural Resources Canada and their Local Energy Efficiency Partnerships team.

The goal was straightforward: review upper-tier requirements of the National Building Code of Canada and establish accurate cost ranges for high-performance building measures in our region.

These conversations are important.

Energy efficiency targets continue to move forward. Builders need to understand the real costs. Governments need grounded data to make responsible decisions.

Proud to contribute to work that supports smarter policy, better homes, and clearer expectations for homeowners across Southern Ontario.

We are already seeing a noticeable increase in renovation interest this January.

That is a good thing.

Starting early gives you time to plan, design, and make confident decisions before the typical spring and summer rush begins. It also means better availability, smoother timelines, and a much higher chance of achieving the level of finish most people actually want.
