That’s a wrap on YASP 2026!

For the past seven weeks, four Youth Apprentices have been working alongside our teams at Guy J. Bailey Ltd. and Shoreline Aggregates Inc.

Thanks to our skilled maintenance teams for teaching and mentoring our students. We’re proud of the professionalism and safe work practices you demonstrated while passing your skills along.

A big thank you to Skills Canada - Newfoundland and Labrador! What a successful program for local youth. In just our second year participating, youth from last year’s YASP program have joined our workforce as full-time, direct-entry apprentices. 👏🏻

To our 2026 students, you should be very proud of yourselves! You came to work ready to learn, worked safely and gained valuable hands-on experience in your trades. Those coveralls certainly aren’t as bright as they were seven weeks ago!

Good luck in Grades 11 and 12, and we hope to see you back next year!

Today we welcomed four outstanding young people to our maintenance teams!

Grade 10 and 11 students Keegan, Ashton, Kyle, and TJ are spending the summer with us as direct-entry apprentices in the Millwright, Electrician, Welder, and Heavy Duty Equipment Technician trades.

This opportunity was made possible through the Youth Apprenticeship and Skills Program (YASP), delivered by Skills Canada - Newfoundland and Labrador. YASP gives high school students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the skilled trades while earning apprenticeship hours before they graduate.

Remember, safety first, always.

We hope this is just the beginning of their long careers with Shoreline Aggregates Inc. and Guy J. Bailey Ltd.

Mining Industry NL was pleased to join the Shoreline Aggregates last week for a site visit to their Point Rouse operations, located on the Baie Verte Peninsula, approximately 6km northeast of the town of Baie Verte.

Shoreline specializes in large scale crushing operations providing bulk aggregate products, including gabbro and granodiorite. The operation employs 120 people.

Shoreline’s private port facility is a strategic asset and expansion efforts are underway to add a second berth to extend operations by at least thirty years. On December 19, 2025, the project was released from environmental assessment. The new port facilities will be a valuable addition to marine transport and logistics infrastructure supporting regional mining expansion activity in Canada’s critical mineral supply chain.

Last week, 8 members of our team completed Confined Space Rescue Training, building our in-house capability and establishing our own confined space rescue team.

A big thank you to Dale Pittman from Canadian Industrial Rescue for delivering such a hands-on, practical course, and for taking the time to review our workspace.

We’re proud of this initiative and of our team for continuing to keep safety at the forefront of everything we do.
