Last week, 4 Elements Residential Construction had the opportunity to repair this almost new steel roof, at a beautiful waterfront property near . Some of the deficiencies found (photos below) included a collapsed plumbing stack boot with large over cut during installation and improper/ unsealed chimney flashing. These were among multiple issues found that also included under/over driven screws and missing flashing/ foam closures, vents, etc. This situation is not only frustrating and aggravating to a property owner but also very disappointing considering the possibility of a major leak leading to costly property damage. Be aware! Do your research and hire a professional to get the job done right the first time!

More often than not, important construction details are overlooked during installation, which can lead to major issues such as water infiltration and structural damage. Although exterior siding is great at keeping your home/ cottage looking good and protected from the elements, it is NOT 100% Waterproof! Flashing, tapes, sealants and weather resistant barriers (Typar, Tyvek, Blueskin etc.) are used behind the siding product to fully protect a buildings walls from moisture intrusion.
