How much floor space and uptime is your mist collection system quietly costing you?

Most CNC shops treat sub-micron mist and smoke as a compliance checkbox, not an operational cost. But centrifugal separators vibrate spindles and can bypass fine smoke particles, and standalone media towers eat floor space while their filters rack up recurring costs. The result: degraded surface finish, EHS exposure, and maintenance crews chasing clogged filters instead of running machines.

The Aeroex Mist-Fit takes a different approach. It mounts directly to the CNC enclosure, using a low-vibration motor and 3-stage filtration to capture 99.97% of sub-micron mist and smoke without disturbing the spindle or the floor plan.

✓ 3-year filter life on the primary MERV 15/HEPA media
✓ OSHA-grade air quality, recirculated back into the shop instead of exhausted outside
✓ Zero-vibration direct mount that protects part finish and reclaims floor space

For shops running enclosed CNC work: is your current mist collection solving the air quality problem, or just relocating it?

Ever notice how the CNC running the highest coolant pressure is usually the one with the worst air around it?

High-pressure mist — we're talking 3,000 psi territory — doesn't just create a haze. It puts submicron oil and coolant particles right into the air operators breathe, and it coats the floor and machine in a fine oily film that turns into a slip hazard fast.

Most shops handle this with a centrifugal separator or a cartridge-style collector. The problem: centrifugal units can vibrate enough to affect part finish, and cartridges clog quickly under sustained high-pressure mist, so you're back to swapping filters every few months.

Aeroex's compact machine-mounted collector takes a different approach — a self-draining fiber bed that runs up to three years without a plate wash or cartridge change, with an optional HEPA stage for shops that need documented compliance. It mounts directly to the machine in a 15"x15" footprint, so there's no separate air handling unit eating into your floor space.

✓ Self-draining fiber bed rated up to 3 years — no plate washing, no cartridge swaps
✓ Direct-mounts in a 15"x15" footprint — no separate air handling unit needed
✓ Optional HEPA stage at 99.97% efficiency for documented OSHA/NIOSH compliance

One shop that made the switch saw ambient mist levels drop from 0.8 mg/m³ to 0.010 mg/m³ — a good reminder that "the mist is just part of the job" isn't actually true.

What's your shop doing to manage high-pressure coolant mist right now?

Ever notice how a machine that's cutting perfectly fine suddenly starts drifting out of tolerance — and nobody can figure out why?

Sometimes the answer isn't the spindle, the tooling, or the program. It's the mist collector bolted right next to it. Rotating drum filters are common on Swiss lathes because they're compact, but that rotation has to go somewhere — and "somewhere" is often straight into the machine structure as low-level vibration. Add in a filter that clogs faster than expected and starts leaking coolant during changeovers, and you've got a maintenance headache stacked on top of a quality problem.

The fix doesn't have to be complicated. Aeroex builds its direct-mount mist collector around three design choices that remove both problems at the source:

✓ Static Coalescing — a fixed fibrebed with zero rotating parts, so nothing feeds vibration back into the spindle
✓ MERV 15 Fibrebed — rated for 1-to-3-year service life, turning monthly filter swaps into an annual task
✓ Pressure Gauge Monitoring — flags filter loading before it clogs mid-shift, so swaps happen on your schedule, not the filter's

It mounts directly on the machine enclosure too, so you're not sacrificing floor space to solve an air quality problem.

Shops making the switch are seeing airborne mist readings drop well under OSHA limits. One tooling shop reported a 93% mist reduction and 38% lower energy draw after replacing an older system.

If your Swiss lathes are fighting chatter or your maintenance team is tired of mid-shift filter swaps, it might be worth asking whether the mist collector is actually part of the problem.

Good air filtration starts with good system design.

A recent installation for an aerospace customer shows what that looks like in practice.

Two Aeroex ARO-4000 systems were connected to two Correa Gantry Milling Machines using US Duct clamp-together ducting.

The challenge with large CNC machining environments is that every shop has a different layout. Equipment, available space, machine locations, and existing infrastructure all need to be considered.

That’s where a properly planned installation makes a difference.

Our team doesn't just provide the filtration equipment—we also design, install, and modify the ducting and connections to fit the machining environment.

The result is a clean, organized system built around the customer's actual operation.

Because the right air-filtration solution isn't always about fitting the machine into the system. Sometimes, it's about fitting the system around the machine.

If you're planning an air-filtration upgrade or a new CNC machining installation, let's talk about your application.

What does "heavy-duty" actually mean when it comes to mist collection?

For a lot of shops, it means a bigger centrifugal drum — which also means more mass spinning inside the enclosure, and more vibration transferring straight into the spindle. On tight-tolerance work, that vibration shows up in the part. Electrostatic systems avoid the spinning mass, but bring their own tradeoff: collector cells that need cleaning every couple of weeks just to keep working.

Aeroex approaches heavy-duty differently — high-capacity source-capture filtration with no spinning drum and no electrostatic cell to maintain.

✓ Washable pre-filters capture 95% of coarse mist and swarf before it reaches the primary filter
✓ A MERV 15 micro-glass coalescer runs maintenance-free for 1–3 years
✓ Continuous gravity drainage returns coolant directly to the sump, cutting fluid costs
✓ Clean, negative-pressure air restored inside the enclosure within 15–20 seconds of a cycle ending

Curious how other shops are handling this — are you fighting vibration, fighting maintenance downtime, or have you found a setup that avoids both? Drop your experience below.

17 years. Same unit. Filters changed... twice. 👀

Tony Gunn sat down with one of our customers to talk about the Aeroex air filtration system running in their CNC shop — and the maintenance record speaks for itself. No constant filter changes, no coolant mess, just a system that quietly does its job year after year.

If you're a shop owner or plant manager tired of filtration maintenance eating into your schedule, this one's worth the watch.

There's a moment right before a shipment leaves the building where everything just... comes together.

The checks are done. The adjustments are finished. What started as a request on paper is now standing ready to go, and for a second, before it's loaded and gone, you can actually see the work that went into it.

It doesn't happen on a schedule. It's simply what's left behind when every step along the way was handled with care.

These MAV-1400 units are headed to Gextex now.

Heavy roughing cuts don't just make chips. They make haze.

Every heavy roughing cut on a CNC floor sends up a cloud of mist and steam — and most shops just accept it as part of the job.

Pursuit Aerospace didn't.

They installed an Aeroex Mist-Fit on one machine. The operators noticed immediately. So did their 5S scores.

"When we installed the first machine, the operators and machinists noticed right away — and very quickly their voices were heard. They liked these. They want more."

That's not a marketing line. That's an operator on the floor, comparing it to what he had before.

If your shop still looks like this one used to, let's talk.

When you're running a precision machine shop, every vendor promises reliability. But when filter changes become a recurring maintenance crisis, or vibration starts showing up in your tolerances, you realize the real cost of choosing wrong early on.

Aaron Kennedy at Mahler Machining decided to stop testing and start standardizing. After benchmarking the market, they moved forward with Aeroex — and haven't looked back. In fact, they've already scaled to 10 units, with more on order.

What changed their math?

It wasn't the pitch. It was the engineering. When your filter life stretches from months to years, when coolant recovery runs continuously without manual intervention, and when maintenance becomes predictable instead of reactive — the ROI stops being theoretical. It becomes operational reality.

That's the difference between a vendor and a partner.

✔ Multi-year filter intervals reduce service frequency and labor costs
✔ Continuous coolant recovery maximizes fluid efficiency
✔ Predictive telemetry eliminates surprise maintenance windows
✔ Vibration isolation protects spindle precision and part yield

If standardizing your mist collection across the shop means fewer downtime events and lower consumable costs, why hasn't every facility done it yet?

Thank you, Aaron, for the trust. Your shop is proof that engineering discipline wins.

Is your mist collector introducing the vibration you're trying to machine out?

Many mist collectors rely on a rotating centrifugal impeller to pull air. Mounted directly on or near a CNC enclosure, that rotation can transmit low-level vibration into the machine structure — showing up as chatter marks or finish variation, especially under high-pressure coolant loads. It rarely gets diagnosed as an air-handling issue, so the search for the cause usually starts and stops at the spindle.

The Aeroex Mist-fit MF-1950 addresses this at the source. It uses a static impeller instead of a rotating one, so there's no moving mass to transfer vibration into the enclosure — while still capturing oil, coolant, and smoke mist at up to 2,000 CFM and returning filtered fluid to the machine.

✔ Static impeller — no rotating mass, no vibration transfer
✔ MERV-15 fiber bed rated 1–3 years, reducing filter change frequency
✔ 25"×25" direct-mount design eliminates ductwork runs
✔ Optional HEPA stage supports NIOSH 0.5 mg/m³ compliance

This isn't just spec-sheet performance — a documented case study at a Kawasaki facility confirmed the air quality results and eliminated service-related coolant spills.

If you've chased unexplained finish variation back to the spindle without an answer, how far upstream did the investigation go?
