To safely start your air conditioner, first remove any winter covers, clear away yard debris, and give the outdoor unit at least two feet of clearance. Next, check and replace your indoor air filter, ensure your electrical breakers are turned on, and set your thermostat to "cool".

Before you flip the switch, it is important to prepare your system to avoid compressor damage or high electrical bills.

With possible snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm and local blowing snow, please take the time to check your outside vents for snow build-up !

Snowfall Warning! ❄️

With the forecast of significant snowfall warnings, we encourage you to be mindful of snow accumulations around your home.

Please take the time to check for snow build-up around your outside furnace vents.

When the outside furnace vent pipe is blocked by snow, it will shut down your system as a safety measure. Blockage around the exhaust pipe may introduce harmful gases into your home.

If you notice a mound of snow blocking your furnace vent, clear it out by hand – do not use a shovel or a snowblower, as either could cause damage to the furnace vent pipe. If the outside temperature remains below freezing for a few days in a row, it is a good idea to have your furnace exhaust vent inspected.

Tips to Save Energy and Stay Cool

Hot summer temperatures can lead to many problems with your air conditioning unit. When temperatures climb, air conditioning units have to work harder to keep the indoors cool.

During a heat warning, it's crucial to use your air conditioner to stay cool and prevent heat-related illnesses, but it's also important to use it efficiently and safely. Setting your thermostat to a reasonable temperature (around 26°C) is generally recommended to avoid overworking the system

Keep blinds or drapes closed to block out the sun during the day.

Keep your unit clean: check your system’s air filters and clean coils and vents periodically to maintain healthy and consistent airflow throughout your home.
