Choosing between a platform scale and a floor scale isn't about specs on a page, it's about how material physically moves through your operation.

If it's lifted or handled by hand, a compact platform or bench scale usually makes sense.

If it's rolling in on a pallet jack or forklift, you need a floor scale built to handle that kind of traffic without being lifted onto a surface first.

Get this wrong and you end up with equipment that's either overbuilt for the job or straining under loads it was never meant to take.

One of the most common, avoidable mistakes we see is a business buying a scale based on what a nearby operation uses, instead of their own actual volume, accuracy needs, and space.

A scale that's a perfect fit for one yard can be completely wrong for another doing different volumes or handling different material.

A provider who actually works across the full range, lab balances, platform scales, and truck scales, can help match equipment to the job instead of just selling what's in stock.

"Industrial scale" covers a lot of ground, and the right one depends entirely on what you're weighing, how much of it, and how often.

A manufacturing line doing check-weighing needs something very different from an aggregate yard billing truckloads, which needs something different again from a grain or feed operation handling continuous volume.

If you're not sure which category your operation actually falls into, that's the first question worth answering before you buy or replace anything.

If your nearest scale provider won't travel to you, you're stuck choosing between downtime while you wait, or shipping equipment you rely on every day.

For most industrial and commercial equipment, especially truck scales and large platform scales, a qualified provider should come to your site.
That matters most for businesses spread across large or remote areas, exactly the kind of territory a lot of providers don't want to cover.

Here's a question worth asking before you hire anyone to touch your scales: are you actually accredited to certify equipment as legal for trade, or are you just calibrating it?

Those aren't the same thing.

Calibration checks and adjusts accuracy.
Certification is the official, accredited confirmation that a scale meets Canada's legal standard for trade.

A scale can be freshly calibrated and still not carry a valid seal if the provider isn't accredited to issue one.

Rose Scale holds Measurement Canada accreditation, which is what allows us to certify your equipment, not just adjust it and call it done.

If your current provider can't answer that question clearly, it's worth asking why.
