O2 Portable Oxygen Cylinders

In the course of our business, we get some request as to how to order replacement portable oxygen cylinders and also, we get into interesting discussions regarding the maintenance requirements of these. Although, it could be clear cut for some, there is a variety of interpretation out there. I have decided to express my views on the topic in a five minutes presentation that is now on what I call: Sprint Aviation TV channel “Training on-the-fly”. Sprint Aviation is now approved (FAA, EASA and TC) to perform the complete overhauls on the Avox emblematic 5500 and 9700 series Portable oxygen cylinders Assemblies (PCA). The state-of-the-art laboratory allows for efficient testing and reduced turn times. The organization is also approved for hydrostatic testing of the DOT3AA, DOT3HT and DOT E8162 (among others) cylinder requalification as by the Dangerous Goods directorate of Canada. October means 50% off on evacuation slide overhauls

Of course, some conditions apply. First and foremost, you want quality and efficiency. Who didn’t see the Good, Fast, Cheap: “choose any two”, from the project management triangle? At Sprint Aviation, we don’t pretend to be able to meet these three criteria’s at once but, with some planning and experienced technicians on our part and a little commitment from our customers, we can get very close.
Task optimization will reduce our turn time (and cost) when we perform overhauls on similar escape slides. How does it translate for you? Very simple. If you send us two similar slides to be inspected concurrently, we can for example bring the price down of the overhaul and hydro-static test to $ 975 USD for two D31354-[ ] slides. The 50% is applied to the second slide, our basic inspection price being $650.00 for this particular model. The turnaround time can be as low as 3 days even with some minor repairs.
We aim at being a major player in the emergency equipment maintenance. As such, we want to constantly increase our capability list on the basis of customer’s needs. In the event that your slide is not on our cap list, we would apply the same 50% on the second unit with the requirement of a 15 days TAT to allow for setup and parts ordering. Sadly, we can’t apply the 50% on parts. Zodiac and BF Goodrich are likely not to honor our request for such a parts discount (wink).
Last but not least, we believe in a win-win relationship with our customers. At Sprint Aviation, volume in repair orders translate directly in credits for you on the following quarter. Instant “slidemiles” if we can say.

B737 evacuation slides

On September 23rd, Sprint Aviation delivered its first of a promising series of evacuation slide overhaul services. The first customer, Nolinor, granted a D31354-series slide that allowed Sprint Aviation to setup the tooling and optimize the around time required. The company can now process a standard overhaul,including the Hydrostatic on the reservoir (if required),in less than five days. In the last quarter of 2016, the company intends to expand its evacuation slide overhaul services to wide body Airbus aircraft.

The magic of oxygen servicing

I recently got into a conversation regarding oxygen servicing more specifically, the benefits of dealing with a designated shop to refill and overhaul the portable cylinders.

My counterpart felt that there wasn’t much of profits to be made from the refills since a lot of operators do this task themselves. That is very true. The fact is, this operation is made (for the most that I have observed) as casually as the servicing of a tire.

Where I am concerned is that in reality, how many technicians are really aware of all the standards governing this operation?
