Peel Region Second Unit Renovation Program
The Region of Peel launched a new program in October 2020 to help eligible homeowners in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga create more affordable rental units.
The program provides up to a maximum of $20,000 by way of a forgivable loan to eligible homeowners who need to upgrade and legalize their existing second unit. Homeowners can receive an additional $10,000 if they rent to a tenant referred by the Region of Peel. The program is currently funded to create 57 affordable units in Peel each year.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for the program, homeowners must:
• Have an existing second unit (for example, an apartment) with a full kitchen, washroom, and separate sleeping area already built.
• Live in the home that has the existing second unit.
• Have a gross household income of $110,456 or less.
