Preheat gets confirmed with a crayon. A welder marks the plate, watches it melt, writes a number on the traveler, and moves on.

That reading was almost certainly correct.

The problem is what happens after it. Temperature drifts during the pass. Interpass climbs as the passes accumulate. And when a weld gets questioned six months later, there's a number in pen and nothing behind it.

The Low Temperature Pyrometer Kit adds preheat and interpass measurement to the XIR-1800. It mounts ahead of the torch, connects straight to the camera, and the readings land in WeldStudio Pro alongside the melt pool and cooling bead data.

Orbital and narrow-gap TIG welds happen in some of the tightest spaces on the floor. Which means the arc is often welding where a standard camera can't see it.

July's Weld Video of the Month puts an XVC-310 "Lipstick" camera right in there, riding just ahead of a GTAW torch with a leading view of the joint. The tungsten tip, the melt pool, and the bead stay in clear focus as the torch moves around the part.

This month, we're taking you inside a closed workcell. It's a composite view of a KUKA robot performing Directed Energy Deposition (DED), captured with three Xiris cameras working together.

When a robotic cell is closed, the operator gives up the one thing that matters most: sight of the process. The build happens out of view, and any problem shows up after the part is finished, not while there's still time to act.

June's Weld Video of the Month is about getting that visibility back. Here's what each feed shows:

→ A CellView camera (top left): the full view of the cell as it runs.

→ An XIR-1800 SWIR thermal camera (lower left): imaging tools reporting real-time temperature points in and around the melt pool.

The thermal camera isn't estimating what's happening in the cell. It's measuring it. Add the wide-cell context and the NIR detail, and a sealed, unmonitored process becomes one the operator can actually see and control.

At Fabtech Canada, a KUKA robot welded the Toronto skyline in molten metal, and Xiris cameras let you watch every layer form up close.

It was the live debut of arc_cellerate, KUKA's new standardized weld cell. They marked the launch by having it draw rather than just run: the skyline, the KUKA name, the Fabtech logo, built up bead by bead through additive welding.

Mounted to the weld arm: a NIR camera and an XIR-1800 thermal camera, both streaming a close-up of every pass as the layers formed, while a CellView camera overhead tracked the arm moving through the cell.
