Performance over time is where the numbers start to matter.

Across nearly 450,000 meters drilled, the 400DUO® connection was tracked through nine inspection cycles, four rigs and two drilling contractors in sour service conditions.

Of 8,432 connection ends inspected, only 73 required repair, resulting in a 0.86% repair rate and approximately $0.04 in repair cost per meter drilled.

Every connection in the drill string has a job to do under load.

As drilling progresses, the connection must repeatedly transfer torque and axial load while maintaining proper engagement throughout the string. Connection geometry, makeup and load distribution all influence how effectively those forces are managed downhole.

DUO® uses its dual-taper connection geometry to separate alignment and load-bearing functions during makeup, helping promote more uniform engagement across the thread profile.

It is a connection developed around what actually matters in the hole: efficient makeup, controlled load distribution and consistent performance through demanding drilling conditions.

Another operator. Another DUO® connection in the field.

A recent field deployment put DUO directly into the hands of a new rig crew, supported by on-site technical training focused on connection handling, makeup procedures and proper implementation.

That field-level support is an important part of introducing connection technology into an active drilling operation. It gives crews the technical knowledge to run DUO correctly while putting the connection to work under real operating conditions.

This is where technology moves beyond specifications and into application.

DUO is being run in the field, supported at the rig and gaining real-world operating experience with every application.

The proof is in the performance.

Connection performance depends on more than what happens during makeup. What happens between runs matters, too.

Thorough cleaning removes drilling residue, thread compound and other contaminants from the connection, allowing the thread profile and critical contact surfaces to be properly inspected before the next run.

That inspection step matters. Damage, wear or contamination left on a connection can affect engagement and makeup when the pipe returns to service.

Cleaning, inspection and proper connection care are fundamental parts of maintaining drill pipe performance from one run to the next.
