Happy National Donut Day! Our local friends at Hoopla Donuts are donating $1 from every donut they sell today (Friday, June 2nd) with the goal of $2,000, will be donated to assist the Canadian Cancer Society with their vital research, advocacy, and support for Canadians and their families.

The history of donut day goes back to the First World War. A doctor by the name of Morgan Pett brought eight dozen donuts to cheer up wounded soldiers in a military base. A soldier who received the donuts, Samuel Geary, decided to start a fundraiser with the Salvation Army so that Dr. Pett could continue to provide donuts to the wounded soldiers. The result was the Salvation Army embracing the fundraiser and creating amenity centres in France for the soldiers to gather and socialize - donuts of course played a role in these centres. Back in the North America, nearly 20 years later, in honour of the Salvation Army’s efforts during the First World War, National Donut Day was created!

It's been a busy month, and we’re also excited to share that the Drive at KP997 broke through! Even with working in a congested area with lack of space, operating through an abundance of snow, and then flooding, our crew managed to achieve the breakthrough after 213m of tunnelling. We’re thrilled to share that the Tunnel Drive 1 breakthrough at Jacko Lake project was a success! Despite challenging site conditions and the first drive of this magnitude, we managed to achieve the breakthrough after 980m of tunnelling. This is a huge accomplishment for our team and we couldn’t be prouder!

Bothar has currently wrapped up a few Direct Pipe Installation (DPI) projects, here are a few fun facts about DPI:
• There have been 170 Direct Pipe Installations worldwide
• Bothar has completed 19 crossings in Canada
• Size range from 0.8 m (30”) to 1.5 m (60”), varying lengths based on soil conditions and pipe size

A few benefits of DPI:
• DPI is cutting-edge technology that revolutionizes pipeline installation.
• Precision: highly accurate and controlled installation.
• Efficiency: streamlined process reducing the need for excavation and surface disruption.
• Environmentally friendly: minimizes the environmental impact preserving natural habitats and ecosystems significantly reducing the overall carbon footprint .
• Cost effective: one-pass installation reducing overall project time by not requiring shaft construction or excavation to complete pipe and crossing installation. By reducing the completion time and equipment requirements this method reduces the overall project cost.

Huge appreciation to the Bothar Inc. crew for successfully completing the Albreda Triple DPI®. The team overcame many challenges including extreme cold weather warnings with temperatures dropping below -40C, and a mixture of geological ground conditions including boulders and sand, to complete the tunnelling of the NPS 48 casing pipe and installation of the NPS 42 product pipe. We commend the teams resilience and safety consciousness! We would like to extend our thanks to all project stakeholders and partners.
