We've heard time and again from those who have experience with breast cancer that the more they learned about it, the less scary it seemed.

But the trouble is, people don't often start learning the details of breast cancer until it's directly affecting their lives — and in some cases, until it's too late.

We believe all women should have the knowledge required to advocate for themselves and be able to detect breast cancer early when outcomes are likely to be better.

Knowledge is power. Know your risk factors. 💧

Earlier this year we had the privilege of talking with Katie Smith-Parent... 💬

Katie has always been an advocate for those around her, in both her personal and professional life — she even won Calgary's Top 40 Under 40 award to prove it.

When she was just 32 years old, Katie was diagnosed with breast cancer and although her cancer is now gone, she remains a fighter for other young women who face the same diagnosis she once did. 💧

A few months ago we had the privilege of talking with Cara Campbell... 💧

Cara is a grandmother to her grandson Rhett, an advocate for health and fitness in the Edmonton area, a welding inspector in training, and most of all, she is an inspiration to young women. ✨

Cara was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 29 years old, and while it was a shock, she didn't let it bring her down.

Throughout her battle with cancer, the surgeries, chemotherapy and more, she kept a glass-half-full attitude — even when it came time to shave her head.

At age 29, Cara woke up with a small lump on her chest. Cara made sure to visit her doctor right away for a thorough breast exam and mammogram. Two weeks later, after an ultrasound and a biopsy, Cara was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Breast cancer in young women is often more aggressive and is diagnosed at a later stage compared to older women...

But out of all women diagnosed with breast cancer every year in North America, almost 1/5 of them are under the age of 50.

As the survey data suggests, it's time regular breast cancer screening becomes available to younger women.

Cara Campbell has never been one to dwell on the negatives in life. 👍

As a single mother, she always made sure to show up for her kids every day and teach them that life is what you make it...

Especially when something as unexpected as breast cancer pushes its way in.

We're honoured to share Cara's story. As a breast cancer survivor for over a decade, she advocates for early detection and has become an inspiration for many young women (and her grandson, Rhett, pictured here).
