"The Lapghan is legendary in our house"

Possibly one of my favourite things anyone has ever said about something I've made. ❤️

Seven years ago, before the bibs, teethers, booties and everything else, there was a hand knit blanket. I wanted something soft and cozy, but practical enough to be used every day — and tossed in the washer and dryer when real life happened.

So when a customer told me:
“It started as the perfect stroller blanket when my daughter was little and has since become our favourite couch blanket. It washes and dries beautifully in the machine, somehow gets softer every time, and holds up to real life with a wiggly kid and dogs who think everything is a bed.”

I hate when something I just bought falls apart in the first wash, don’t you?

It’s frustrating enough when something wears out after being well used. But when it’s brand new? Or worse, when it doesn’t even survive the "wash-before-use"?

This was driving me crazy when I was buying things for my own child 30 years ago.

I didn’t know it then, but those frustrations planted some of the earliest seeds for Cables and Lace.

Because babies are messy. Their things get washed. A lot.
And I’ve always believed that short-term use shouldn’t mean short-lived.

Baby essentials should be made to be loved, washed, and—when baby is finished with them—passed on. ❤️

Apparently my new marketing strategy is telling you not to buy my stuff. 🤷‍♀️😂

But seriously — if a thin receiving blanket works for you, mine probably isn’t what you’re looking for.

I make mine with two layers of 100% cotton flannel because I think baby things should be useful.

They should be used, washed, used again...
and still be useful after the newborn stage!

I call it the Everything Nursery Blanket for a reason. ❤️
