One battery for starting the engine and powering the electronics. Sounds convenient. But is a dual purpose battery actually the right call?

The answer depends on how you use it. Deep cycle batteries are built to discharge deeply and recharge repeatedly without losing capacity. Dual purpose batteries split the difference between starting power and cycling capability, but they don't match a dedicated deep cycle in either lifespan or sustained output.

Key differences:
• Deep cycle: Higher amp-hour rating, longer lifespan under repeated deep discharge, better suited for trolling motors, RV appliances, solar storage, and onboard electronics
