The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) is a non-partisan, research-based industry association that advocates on behalf of our member companies, large and small, that explore for, develop, and produce oil and natural gas throughout Canada. CAPP’s members produce nearly three quarters of Canada’s annual oil and natural gas production, and our associate members provide a wide range of

services that support the upstream industry. Canada’s upstream oil and natural gas industry provides approximately 450,000 direct and indirect jobs in nearly all regions of Canada. Last year, the industry contributed over $85 billion to Canada’s GDP, delivered over 20 percent of the country’s value of exports, and between 2022 and 2024 generated $116 billion in taxes and royalties for governments nationwide. CAPP is a solution-oriented partner and works with all levels of government to ensure a thriving Canadian oil and natural gas industry. While the rodeos and pancakes get the spotlight, the Calgary Stampede is also one of the most important weeks of the year for Canada's oil & natural gas sector.

It brings together decision-makers from across the country to talk about the future of our economy. This week, the CAPP team and our members were out in the community having productive, collaborative conversations with government officials about how Canadian oil and natural gas can continue to support affordability, jobs, and energy security for everyone.

That capital is funding tangible solutions operating right now: recycling up to 90% of the water used in-situ operations, using non-emitting hydroelectricity to power facilities, and supporting more than 170 companies nationwide focused entirely on measuring and mitigating methane.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is a moment to celebrate the leadership, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous peoples across Canada—including the remarkable strides being made in economic reconciliation within our energy sector.

Since 2021, in British Columbia and Alberta alone, industry has invested over $14 billion with nearly 600 Indigenous-owned and affiliated businesses. These numbers reflect more than economic activity—they represent a structural shift toward shared prosperity and meaningful partnership.
