On September 30th, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we're honoured to feature Deeper Roots by Indigenous artist Autumn Whiteway (), shared with her generous permission.
Roots run deep – through family, through land, through the stories carried by every generation before us.
Deeper Roots speaks to that connection: the resilience of Indigenous communities, and the strength drawn from culture, land, and each other, even through generations of harm.
Today we remember the children who never returned home, honour survivors of residential schools, and recognize the families and communities who continue to live with the impacts of the residential school system.
In Calgary, we live and work in Treaty 7 territory.
We're grateful to Autumn for sharing her work with us, and we encourage everyone to take today to listen, reflect, and continue learning about the histories and experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
