Today I'm wearing purple for , standing with 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and taking a stand against bullying.

Every young person deserves to grow up feeling safe, supported and celebrated for exactly who they are. Unfortunately, we know that's not always the reality, especially here in Alberta.

I started Q-TILITIES because I believe in the power of community and what we can accomplish when we show up for one another. That includes standing against hate and helping create a future where everyone feels they belong.

It's why we do what we do, and why we're proud to stand with q***r and trans youth today and every day. 💜

Hi. I’m Chris. 👋🌈

Since it’s National Coming Out Day, it felt like a fitting time to properly introduce myself, not just as the founder of Q-TILITIES, but as the person behind it.

Coming out is part of my story. So is leaving Nova Scotia before I was ready to accept who I was, building a life in Alberta, finding my husband and my community, getting laid off, and eventually deciding to take a chance on building a q***r-owned business with a very specific purpose.

Q-TILITIES exists because I believe our everyday choices can do some good. That a utility company can be proudly q***r 365 days a year. And that we can build a successful business while putting our profits back into the communities that helped me become comfortable being exactly who I am.

So today, you get a little more of the person behind the rainbow. The husband, cat dad, uncle, East Coaster, introvert, overthinker, small business owner and occasional bulk purchaser of condoms. 😂

And on National Coming Out Day, a little reminder: coming out looks different for everyone. There’s no right timeline, no right way to do it and no obligation to come out before you’re ready.

Pride looks pretty good in the Rockies. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏔️

Q-TILITIES is proud to support Banff Pride with a $500 donation as the festival returns October 2–12 for 11 days of q***r community, culture and connection.

The festivities kick off with the Pride March and flag raising on October 2, followed by a packed schedule that includes everything from Reading with Royalty and a Pride voyage on Lake Minnewanka to drag brunch, Pride Bingo, live music, the Pride Market and plenty of drag and burlesque.
