The U.S. Post-Consumer Plastic Recycling Study is released every two years and compiled for the Association of Plastic Recyclers and the U.S. Plastics Pact by Stina Inc. and the National Association for PET Container Resources.

While recyclers and EHS staff across industries work diligently to recycle as much as possible, lower carbon footprint, decrease energy consumption, and eliminate waste for the lowest cost; the bureaucracy undermines our efforts with countless conferences and meetings.

Seems to me that sustainability conferences may have become the newest governmental, NGO, and regulatory grift doing more damage than the public realizes.

Just another example of governments, academia, and NGO's "Do as I say, not as I do." attitude towards the environment, the public, and the policy they create

Do you know and undergraduate or Graduate student who is studing Health and Safety?

Undergraduate or graduate students registered at Canadian universities and colleges along with individuals who have graduated from a Canadian university or college in the last 2 years and now in the workplace are eligible to enter the competition by preparing a written response to the questions raised in the case study. Students on cooperative work terms or equivalent are considered eligible to enter. No team submissions will be accepted. The case study will be focused on a Health and Safety issue.

The Minerva Canada case study competition is being launched in September 2025 in partnership with the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada, Service Hospitality and The Conference Board of Canada. All post-secondary students in Canada as well as students who have graduated in the last two years from a post-secondary school and now in the workplace are eligible to apply for this award. Final date for submissions is January 12, 2026.

Minerva partnered with the Industry Association, the Society of Chemical Eng and the University in establishing the Minerva-CIAC case study competition.

Everyone wants to reduce, re-use and recycle.

One way to reduce consumption is through the use of re-usable goods. With that mindset McDonald's endeavored to bravely do so in certain European High density markets and the results did not prove well. In the meantime if your dining establishment of choice doesn't offer re-usable dining and packaging options; make sure to recycle what you can, and dispose of the rest properly. Litter from humans is the most preventable way of plastic, paper, glass or metal waste from getting into the environment.
