Julia West House shows what mass timber can make possible on a tight urban site.

At 12 storeys, the Portland project delivers 90 supportive housing units on a 5,000 sq. ft. lot. A highly repeatable mass timber system helped simplify construction, shorten installation time and make the most of limited space.

Kalesnikoff supplied and fabricated the Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), bringing warm, exposed wood into a building designed around the people who call it home.

Some pieces of history find their way back home.

In 1947, Koozma, Sam and Peter Kalesnikoff purchased this International KB-7 truck to haul logs, hay and lumber from the original mill at Champion Creek.

Decades later, the family went looking for a truck like the one that started it all. When they checked the VIN, they discovered they hadn’t just found a similar truck. They had found the exact one.

It was brought home, restored, and today it has a place at our head office as a reminder of where Kalesnikoff began. Once a year it gets to show off a little at the Castlegar Days Parade, and over the years it has earned some recognition of its own, including Best Stock Truck at the 2016 Nelson Road Kings Queen City Cruise.

A lot has changed since this truck first hauled lumber out of the mill. Four generations later, it’s still part of the Kalesnikoff story.

Four generations. Five milestones. One family business.

From a logging road cut by hand in 1939 to the official opening of our new head office this Fall, every facility has marked another step forward for Kalesnikoff.

Each one was built by the people who call the Kootenays home, and built for the work still ahead.

We celebrate the official opening of our new head office on October 21, 2026.

The building was designed and built as an extension of the work we do every day,
bringing together our materials, our people and the standards we bring to every project.

We can’t wait to cut the ribbon at our grand opening on October 21 and share more of what’s been taking shape inside. More soon.

Our Modular Mass Timber Classroom is featured in Wood Design & Building magazine's "Projects We Love." The classrooms are built from CLT and glulam made in our own facilities, assembled at our new K3 Modular plant, and delivered to schools ready to be placed and connected.

From our shop floor in the Kootenays to Vancouver Island

The new Langford Community Arts and Child Care Centre is featured in Wood Design & Building magazine. The building is made of mass timber modules that we built here at home, then shipped by highway and ferry to Langford, where they're being craned into place.

Once it opens in spring 2027, it will be home to 49 childcare spaces plus pottery, dance, art and music rooms for the community. We love knowing that kids and artists will be spending their days surrounded by wood that started its journey right here.

Meet Eri Uhthoff.

Eri leads our modular and panelized mass timber solutions, working with project teams to bring manufacturing and construction thinking into the design process early. She has more than 10 years of experience across architecture, project management, mass timber and prefabricated construction, and has worked across Europe and North America.

"I really like seeing things take shape and go from drawings to real, long-lasting buildings."

Outside of work, you'll find her by the water with her dog, swimming, paddleboarding or scuba diving.

The Hive has been shortlisted for the Institution of Structural Engineers' 2026 Structural Awards, one of 34 projects selected from nearly 100 entries across 15 countries.

Mass timber can offer an efficient solution for familiar building types, but projects like The Hive show what becomes possible when the material is pushed further through architecture and engineering.

For this 10-storey Vancouver office building, Kalesnikoff supplied and fabricated the Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) and Douglas Fir Glulam that form a major part of its structural system. Its distinctive honeycomb exterior incorporates a timber braced frame, working alongside CLT shear walls and a specialized seismic system to create a structure that is highly engineered and visually expressive.

It's a strong example of the flexibility of mass timber, not only as an alternative way to build, but as a material that can help engineers and architects rethink what a building's structure can do.

Congratulations to the whole project team on this recognition, and thank you for the opportunity to bring our mass timber expertise, from seedlings to solutions, to a project like this. Winners will be announced November 6 in London.

The National Centre for Indigenous Laws at the University of Victoria was created in answer to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, which ask that legal education in Canada include Indigenous law and the history of Indigenous peoples.

It's a home for Indigenous legal traditions and for the students, Elders and communities keeping them strong. In the words of Val Napoleon, then Acting Dean of Law, it is a sanctuary where Indigenous laws will be safe, and where Indigenous and non-Indigenous students learn together.

Before it opened its doors, it was raised piece by piece among the trees. Its design was shaped by years of listening to Elders and knowledge-keepers from the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ communities. Every timber column and roof panel was placed to bring that vision to life, a building that sits lightly on the land, with a roof rising toward the forest canopy.

We were honored to supply the mass timber for this space and to be a small part of the work that continues inside it.
