One of the advantages of ordering “custom” ironwork, is the unique statement it makes. Something you would never be able to find in a store.This sign is a prime example of this! This is a business sign Scott made for an antique shop in Blue Rocks. It’s so much fun for Scott to take on these challenges!

Hammer-In coming up on August 29th.Scott will be one of the demonstrators!
What is a "Hammer In" ? It is a gathering of blacksmiths and those interested in blacksmithing. A unique opportunity to see experienced blacksmiths do demonstrations on specific skills. Not to mention, the chance to connect with like-minded people! Open to the public but Maritime Blacksmith's Association memberships can be purchased at this time. I believe Adam will be demonstrating knife making and Scott will be showing how to make a rose and if time allows, how to make feathers and wedges for splitting stones. Bring your own lunch.EVERYONE WELCOME!

Saturday’s Maritime Blacksmith Association’s event at Ross Farm Museum was a great time and well attended!
The day started with a Board meeting, followed by the AGM.
Lots of exciting plans are being made towards the MBA hosting CanIron XV here in Nova Scotia, in August 2027!!
A CanIron is an international gathering of blacksmiths with demonstrators and attendees coming from many countries. It involves demonstrations of all types, lectures, an art show and much, much more. A “don’t miss” event for anyone interested in learning more about blacksmithing and bladesmithing.
In the afternoon were the demonstrations.
Scott Hamlin, of Scotian Ironworks demonstrated ox bell making. This is a set of skills Scott has worked very hard to gather and to hone. Scott was honoured to have blacksmith’s, ox bell enthusiasts, teamsters and collectors attend from as far away as Yarmouth!
Mykhailo Bideiko, the Ukrainian Blacksmith, demonstrated armour making. This requires a great deal of precision, skill and time. A very unique skill set!
Both demonstrations were very well received with most attendees staying for the whole afternoon!
Thank you to Ross Farm Museum for allowing us to hold this event on site and helping to keep these heritage skills alive!

For the last many years, most of Scott’s work has consisted of a broad spectrum of custom orders of all kinds, big and small.Many are very challenging in one way or the other because of the unique nature of each project.
But that is also what makes things interesting!

This large commission proved challenging because Scott was tasked with trying to replicate a very ornate piece of “cast iron”, in this case, a “crest”.

What is a Crest? “Cresting was used as a finishing touch to create a "crown" on roofs, towers, or cupolas, commanding the eye skyward.”

Cast iron, though it looks similar to wrought iron, is created through a completely different process.With cast iron, the iron is melted and poured into sand molds.

This “crest” was commissioned by Heritage Restoration Inc. “(HRI Group) is proudly a Canadian, family owned and operated business that has been restoring heritage buildings and structures across Ontario for over a century.”

This crest was placed on the roof of the Thomas Williams House in Moncton, with the help of a crane.There are numerous other restoration efforts happening at this historic house.

Thomas Williams House is named after Thomas Williams, a prominent Monctonian, who was the treasurer for the Intercolonial Railway.
“Built in 1883, this heritage home stands as an elegant symbol of local life during the Victorian era. Today, the Thomas Williams House is a designated municipal heritage site.
Scott is very proud to have been a part of restoring this beautiful Historic home.
