For the last many years, most of Scott’s work has consisted of a broad spectrum of custom orders of all kinds, big and small. Many are very challenging in one way or the other because of the unique nature of each project.
But that is also what makes things interesting!

This large commission proved challenging because Scott was tasked with trying to replicate a very ornate piece of “cast iron”, in this case, a “crest”.

What is a Crest? “Cresting was used as a finishing touch to create a "crown" on roofs, towers, or cupolas, commanding the eye skyward.”

Cast iron, though it looks similar to wrought iron, is created through a completely different process. With cast iron, the iron is melted and poured into sand molds.

This “crest” was commissioned by Heritage Restoration Inc. “(HRI Group) is proudly a Canadian, family owned and operated business that has been restoring heritage buildings and structures across Ontario for over a century.”

This crest was placed on the roof of the Thomas Williams House in Moncton, with the help of a crane. There are numerous other restoration efforts happening at this historic house.

Thomas Williams House is named after Thomas Williams, a prominent Monctonian, who was the treasurer for the Intercolonial Railway.
“Built in 1883, this heritage home stands as an elegant symbol of local life during the Victorian era. Today, the Thomas Williams House is a designated municipal heritage site.
Scott is very proud to have been a part of restoring this beautiful Historic home.

As this week is Holy Week,I wanted to, once again, focus on some of the religious ironworks Scott has created over the years and reflect on the thought, spirituality and creativity Scott has put into each piece. Scott has created quite the extensive and impressive portfolio of religious ironworks over his career !! Most of these items are in places of worship including Anglican, United and Baptist churches and a Russian Orthodox monastery and cemetery and it is Scott’s hope that these works are inspirational and reflect his faith.Truly some of his most meaningful and rewarding work!!
Happy & Blessed Easter everyone !

In 2001 Scott created a massive “Donor Tree” for the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens. It was Scott’s biggest project to date, at that time. It was part of their major fundraising effort to acknowledge their 20th anniversary of the opening of the gardens AND to raise money for the continued development of the gardens.

It is a huge tree sculpture, 6 ft.+ high, espaliered and outfitted with many “eyes” on which hundreds of painstakingly created leaves would eventually be hooked onto the sculpture. The leaves, complete with intricate veins and a realistic shape, would be engraved with the donors name and often in memory of loved ones.

The piece was unveiled 25 years ago at a Garden Party at the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, with the ribbon cut by the Lieutenant-Governor, Myra Freeman.

The Donor Tree continues to be displayed at the Gardens in a prominent location where visitors can see the art piece and the generous donations that have been given.

To date, more than $40,000 has been raised and acknowledged on this “Donor Tree”! Another batch of leaves will be heading there soon, to continue the ongoing fundraising! It is an honour for Scott to play a role in these important and impactful projects.
Thank you to Trish Fry for many of these photos.

Thank you all for your well wishes for Scott. He is slowly recouperating but it will take some time as he had X-rays last night and unfortunately his leg is broken, not sprained, as we originally thought.Take care everyone as it is very icy!

Just wanted to give folks a head's up that unfortunately Scott will not be able to attend the Opening Reception at the Dal AC Fine Arts and Crafts Exhibit scheduled for tonight in Truro. Scott had quite a fall on the ice last night and has a leg injury. When the time is right, we will definitely stop in at the Exhibit to see all the beautiful artworks and we encourage others to do so as well! The show is open till April 4th. *SPOILER ALERT* These are the pieces that Scott is displaying.

Scott is pleased to be participating in the upcoming DAL AC Fine Arts and Crafts Exhibit! The show opens on Thursday, February 26 with an Opening Reception and continues until April 4.
This is a special show featuring artworks created by Dal AC students, staff and alumni. Each artist can display 3 items.
Scott is an alumni ( Class of 1986) as well as Joshua (Class of 2016 ). A nice opportunity to visit his Alma Mater, show a few of his beautiful artistic ironworks, and connect with the current Dal AC community!

Scott has done many railings in his 35+ year career, with most presenting challenges of one type or another. At a length of over 110 feet (combined) , these railings were Scott’s “longest” set of railings to date !
This custom order included two 15’ railings for on each side of the steps and one very long section ( 96’) along the driveway.(12, 8’ sections) Snub nose scrolls are on each end of the railings.
The client opted for a modern, industrial type design in order to compliment the extensive landscaping and stone work on the property.
Multiple trips to Halifax were needed for detailed “fittings” and necessary adjustments made. Due to it’s length, the driveway railing needed to be done in sections and then connected on-site. Also, due to it’s length and weight, every trip to the city involved transporting the railing sections on a trailer.
A powder coated finish ensures it will not rust.
