Imperial’s Cold Lake operation is the longest-running operation in northeastern Alberta and one of the largest thermal in-situ heavy oil operations

in the world. Our Cold Lake operation produces, on average, about 160,000 barrels of bitumen a day (gross). Imperial is proposing to expand its Cold Lake operations (CLO) with an in-situ solvent-assisted steam-assisted gravity drainage (SA-SAGD) oil sands project named the Cold Lake Expansion Project. Cold Lake est l’un des sites d’exploitation de sables pétrolifères les plus anciens du nord-est de l’Alberta et l’une des plus grandes installations thermiques in situ au monde. L’établissement approvisionne différentes raffineries au Canada et aux États-Unis et leur fournit le brut nécessaire pour produire du carburant, de l’asphalte et d’autres produits importants. Le site tire sa prospérité et sa force actuelle des compétences, du dévouement et de la passion de ses quelque 400 employés et 1 000 contractuels, parmi lesquels comptent des entreprises appartenant à des Autochtones.

150 years of Treaty 6. A meaningful milestone and an important opportunity to come together, reflect and recognize its lasting significance.

Earlier this week, the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations hosted their 150th Commemoration in Edmonton, bringing together community members, leaders and guests to mark the occasion.

Imperial was honoured to support the celebration as a Silver Sponsor and participate in the Opening Ceremonies, with Fred, Daniel, Lesley and Julie attending on behalf of our Cold Lake operations.

Thank you to the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations for including us in this important commemoration.

From tiny seeds to big possibilities 🍒 ➡️ 🌳

Imperial and Cold Lake First Nations recently partnered for a day out in the field collecting pin cherries.

The seeds gathered are now headed to Smoky Lake Forest Nursery Ltd., where they’ll be processed, grown into seedlings and eventually put to work in reclamation projects.

This collaboration is another great example of how working together to incorporate local knowledge and long-term planning can help restore landscapes and support healthy, diverse ecosystems.

🎓 Meet the second recipient of Imperial Cold Lake's 2026 Billion Barrel Scholarship: Abdulqudoos, a graduate of St. Paul Regional High School S.P.E.R.D.

This fall, Abdulqudoos will begin a Bachelor of Science in Engineering at the University of Alberta, with plans to pursue hands-on experience through the university’s co-op program.

Passionate about STEM and problem solving, Abdulqudoos has taught himself several programming languages and explored coding, robotics, computer-aided design and artificial intelligence. He also earned a place at the Canada-Wide Science Fair, where he presented a project combining real-time transcription with augmented reality technology.

His long-term goal is to become a mechanical engineer and develop innovative technologies that improve safety, efficiency and productivity.

Congratulations, Abdulqudoos! We’re proud to support your next chapter and look forward to seeing what you accomplish. 👏

🎓 Meet the first recipient of our Billion Barrel Scholarship: Lucas Vining!

A graduate of Assumption School in Cold Lake, Lucas has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, leadership and a strong commitment to his community.

Alongside excelling in STEM, athletics and several part-time roles, Lucas contributed more than 200 volunteer hours to local organizations and supported other students as a math and science tutor.

Lucas is now pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering at the University of Calgary, with interests in geomatics, energy and the environment. He hopes to build a career focused on environmental sustainability, resource management and technological innovation.

Congratulations, Lucas! We are proud to support you as you begin this next chapter.
