Have you ever renovated a house built in the 1890s?

This was one of the more unique projects we’ve taken on, right in the heart of Cumberland on Vancouver Island.

Originally built as an old coal-mining cabin, the home sits right next to the historic No. 6 Mine entrance. A place that would have once been surrounded by miners, rail lines, coal wagons and the everyday activity of a working mining town.

More than 130 years later, the house was still standing. When we opened up the attic, we found a few inches of coal dust that had accumulated over the years.

It was pretty incredible to work on a home that has stood through more than a century of Cumberland’s history and help preserve it for another generation.
