🎙️New Podcast Episode | How to build the "perfect" place for fungi to grow? – Part 2
We are excited to continue the conversation with Alexandre Leblond, a master’s student at McGill University. He and his team have been investigating fungal growth using PDMS microfluidic devices, discovering that the size of the initial biomass has a significant impact on development.
His team found a “sweet spot” (~60,000 µm³) that led to 15 times growth in just 2 days, something bulk methods couldn’t reveal.
Even better, they used 3D printing to rapidly prototype their devices, allowing them to handle everything right at the bench. It is significantly more efficient and effective than traditional methods.
It is a great reminder: Microfluidics isn’t just for diagnostics. It also solves real problems in sustainability and materials science.
Have you explored non-traditional uses for microfluidics?
