The best rock in the world is worth very little if you cannot get a truck to it.

That sounds obvious, but it is one of the most common reasons exploration projects stall. A property can carry genuinely interesting geology and still never advance, because the road washes out, the nearest crew is nine hours away, the permitting authority has no framework for the work, or the drilling season is six weeks long.

Location is not a footnote in exploration. It is a cost structure.

McNary sits in Yavapai County, Arizona, approximately 24.5 road miles southwest of Prescott. It is reached by a combination of paved and unpaved roads, with historic routes running toward the former workings. Prescott is a working town with services, and Arizona has a long and continuous mining history, an established permitting framework, and an experienced local contractor and labour pool. Weather allows fieldwork through most of the year.

None of that tells you anything about what is in the ground. Geology decides that, and at McNary no modern drilling has been completed to date. What access and jurisdiction decide is how much every future metre costs, how quickly a crew can mobilise, and whether a program that looks good on paper can actually be executed.

Two properties with identical geology can have very different futures based on nothing more than a road and a permitting office.

Final access requirements for any future exploration, including agency authorizations and any applicable bonding, will be addressed as part of program planning.

You can find a gold deposit without ever seeing gold.

Here is how. As rock breaks down near surface over thousands of years, tiny amounts of the metals inside it get released and mixed into the soil sitting on top. We are talking about quantities measured in parts per billion, invisible to the eye and far too small to matter economically on their own. But they leave a fingerprint.

Exploration crews walk a grid across the property and collect soil at fixed spacing, sometimes hundreds of samples across a single target area. Each one goes to a lab, gets assayed for a suite of elements, and the results get plotted on a map. Where the numbers climb above the local background level, you have what geologists call an anomaly. It does not prove anything is there. It tells you where the rock underneath is worth a closer look.

That matters because drilling is expensive and soil sampling is not. The real value of a geochemical survey is not just showing you where to drill. It is showing you the ninety percent of a property where you should not.

At McNary, in Yavapai County, Arizona, 704 soil samples have been collected, alongside 120 rock samples and approximately 60 line kilometres of ground magnetic surveying across the 31 claim block. That work has identified multiple priority targets across the property. No modern drilling has been completed there to date.

THE PERSON WHO HAS TO STAND BEHIND THE NUMBERS

In mineral exploration, technical claims aren't just written by anyone. Under Canadian rules, they have to be reviewed and signed off by a Qualified Person, and that's a role worth understanding. ๐Ÿ‘‡

A Qualified Person, or "QP", is a geologist or engineer with defined professional credentials and relevant experience who takes responsibility for a company's scientific and technical disclosure. When you read technical information from a compliant explorer, a QP has reviewed it and stands behind it.

Why it matters to you:

๐Ÿ”น Accountability. A named professional attaches their credential and reputation to the technical claims.
๐Ÿ”น Rigour. The QP framework is a core part of NI 43-101, the standard that keeps mineral disclosure honest.
๐Ÿ”น Discipline. It's a built-in check against getting ahead of the evidence, which is exactly how careful exploration should work.

MINING 101: WHAT IS NI 43-101?

If you follow Canadian-listed mining companies, you'll see "NI 43-101" everywhere. Here's what it actually means. ๐Ÿ‘‡

NI 43-101 is the Canadian rulebook for how mining companies are allowed to talk publicly about their mineral projects. The full name is National Instrument 43-101, Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects. Its job is simple: make sure the technical claims a company makes are backed by real work and reviewed by a qualified expert, so investors aren't relying on hype.

A few things it does:

๐Ÿ”น It requires a Qualified Person. Scientific and technical disclosure has to be reviewed and signed off by a "QP", a geologist or engineer with defined credentials and experience who stands behind the numbers.

๐Ÿ”น It separates fact from history. Old, pre-regulation production figures can't just be presented as if they were reliable. They have to be flagged as historic, unverified, and not compliant with modern standards.

๐Ÿ”น It sets the bar for "resource" and "reserve." Those words have strict technical definitions. A company can't call something a mineral resource until the work supports it under the standard.

Why it matters to you: when you read that a project "has no mineral resource estimated yet," that's not a company being modest, it's the rulebook working. It means claims have to be earned. โœ…

How do explorers "see" underground before they drill? One key tool is geophysics.

Geophysical surveys measure physical properties of the rocks below, things like magnetism, density and how easily they conduct electricity. Because different rocks and minerals respond differently, these surveys can reveal features and anomalies hidden beneath the surface, without moving any earth. It doesn't confirm what's down there, only drilling can do that, but it helps explorers focus in on the most promising targets before committing to a costly drill hole.

Ever seen a drill result like "5 g/t gold" and wondered what it means?

"g/t" is grams per tonne - how much metal is in a tonne of rock. So 5 g/t gold means five grams of gold in every tonne. It sounds tiny, and it is: gold is measured in grams because even small amounts can be significant. Grade is only one piece, though - width, depth, and how consistent the mineralization is all matter too, which is why results are read in context, not off a single number.

Not all drilling is the same.
โ›๏ธ Explorers mainly use two methods, and each has a job.

Diamond drilling uses a diamond-tipped bit to cut a solid cylinder of rock - "core." It's slower and costs more, but you get an intact sample you can log, photograph and split for the lab. Reverse circulation (RC) drilling is faster and cheaper: it brings rock chips to the surface for sampling, which is great for testing targets quickly, though with less geological detail than core.
Many programs use both - RC to cover ground, diamond core where detail matters most.

How do you know an exploration result can be trusted? A lot of it comes down to QA/QC, quality assurance and quality control.

Before a sample ever produces a number, explorers follow strict steps: core is logged and split, samples are sealed and uniquely numbered, and a documented chain of custody tracks each one to an accredited lab. Labs also run standards, blanks and duplicates to check their own accuracy. It's the unglamorous work that makes a result credible, and it's a big part of why disclosure standards exist.
