Our Story
Originally built in 1952 by Canadian Oil Companies Limited, the refinery became part of Shell’s operations when we purchased Canadian Oil in 1963. Since then, we have completed numerous upgrades, modernized the equipment and added new facilities and technology to meet current product regulations and environmental legislation. The site, known as the Shell’s Sarnia Manufacturing Centre, al

so referred to as Shell's Corunna Refinery, employs approximately 350 people. Additional contractors may be brought in to provide support for both routine operations and major maintenance activities. The number of contractors on site at any given time varies according to the type of work underway.

Starting this evening, August 27, we are expecting some increased flaring and noise at our site.

At this time, there is no action required from the community as a result of these activities. It is important to note the flare system is a process safety device at the refinery and is a normal and vital part of unit shutdown and start-up activities.

All safety precautions and standard regulatory protocols are being followed. Unit restoration is likely to occur in approximately two weeks.

Should you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the refinery at 519-481-1245.

Members of the Shell Technology Team were out in Forest yesterday as part of the Habitat for Humanity Build Day. They spent the day painting at a 4 Plex - accomplishing the goal of painting all the trim in unit 2 and priming all the walls and ceilings in unit 4. This is the first of three Shell teams who will be participating in a build day this year.

Thank you to everyone at Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton for all you do supporting our community, and giving our team this great opportunity.

Thank you to all those involved in organizing this great community event, and we wish you a successful weekend!
