At VAST, safety is always a priority — and something we work hard to keep top of mind. Earlier this month, our team gathered for hands-on Health & Safety Refresher training to kick off Safety & Health Week, covering everything from remote work protocols and hazard recognition to vehicle maintenance, quad safety, fire response, bear spray training, and more.

From summer students to seasoned field veterans, all employees took part in tuning up the skills and knowledge that help them take care of themselves and each other.

Last week, Mark Treleaven, Hannah Krausz, and Taylor Yee represented VAST Resource Solutions at the Southern Interior Timber Cruising Association (SITCA) Conference.

The event brought together forestry professionals from across B.C. to share knowledge, strengthen connections, and stay current on developments in timber cruising and forest management. Opportunities like these help our team continue building expertise, sharing perspectives, and staying connected to the evolving needs of the forestry sector.

Thanks to SITCA for hosting another great event!

Last week, VAST’s Thomas Malinowski, Nathan Swanson, and Claire Schadeli attended the 2026 LGMA Rocky Mountain / West Kootenay Boundary Joint Chapter Conference in Castlegar, connecting with local government leaders, partners, and communities from across the region.

This year’s conference explored Navigating an Evolving Local Government Landscape, with conversations focused on infrastructure, asset management, AI, resilience planning, community decision-making, and the future of local government.

At VAST Resource Solutions, we value opportunities to build relationships, share knowledge, and better understand how we meet the evolving needs of the communities we support. Thank you to the organizers and everyone who helped make it a great event.

The Kootenays have never just been a place we work — they’re home. That’s why VAST Resource Solutions is proud to open a permanent office in downtown Nelson, B.C., strengthening our connection to the communities, landscapes, and projects that matter across the West Kootenay.

Projects in the Kootenays are unique. They require local knowledge, trusted relationships, and a deep understanding of the landscapes, communities, and complexities that shape this region. With offices in both Cranbrook and Nelson, we’re continuing to invest in local expertise, meaningful partnerships, and the communities we’re proud to be part of.

𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗛𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀

On April 16, Dave George, Senior Survey Technician / Geomatics Technologist, and Andrew Bowen, Senior Survey Technologist, put VAST’s new drone (DJI Matrice 400) and L3 LiDAR Sensor to the test.

This isn’t just a new piece of equipment—it’s an upgrade in how we collect and understand data in the field.

Our previous UAV work relied on photogrammetry to build topographic models. This new system uses photogrammetry and LiDAR simultaneously, delivering significantly higher accuracy and the ability to capture detailed terrain data, even in complex environments.

This drone opens the door to new and improved applications, supporting clients with:

✔️Forest vegetation pe*******on
✔️Large area data capture
✔️High density point cloud creation
✔️And more...

It’s all part of how we continue to evolve our geomatics and remote sensing services—combining boots-on-the-ground expertise with advanced technology to deliver better, more precise results.
